Continue ReadingIOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa is becoming more fertile ground for college prospects with each passing year. It’s growing at a rate I didn’t see coming when I started covering preps in the state during the 1997 season.
Still, schools hesitate offering scholarships to some recruits. It could be that they’re flying under the radar, coaches may want to see them at junior days or camps, they speculate that a bigger program might swoop in for the player or a variety of other reasons.
The Class of 2024 guys listed below I saw in person this season or watched highlights and asked around. They should be getting more attention, and it could be coming soon:
Grant Glausser, RB/DB/LS, Epworth Western Dubuque
As a running back, Glausser shows good vision and hits the hole hard when he sees it. He exhibits patience when needed and bursts through the opening with an ability to break tackles. He boasts sneaky speed when underway. Defensively, he diagnosis plays well, flows smoothly to the ball and is a technically sound tackler. He rolled up 1,564 yards (7.6 YPC) and 19 touchdowns rushing in ’22.
You can watch Glausser’s junior highlights HERE.
Dantrell Skinner Dantrell Skinner 6'0" | 220 lbs | OL Liberty | 2024 IA , DL, Iowa City Liberty
Listed at 6-0, 235 pounds, Skinner lacks the cookie-cutter frame of a next-level defensive lineman. Production comes in all shapes and sizes, however, and he maximizes his natural gifts by playing with great pad level and sound technique. It makes him difficult to block coming off the edge. He’s powerful enough to rush up the middle, as well, and plays the run soundly. He’s a good enough athlete that the Lighting use him as a short-yardage running back as evidenced by his two touchdowns on the ground in ’22. Defensively, he produced 23 solo tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss and a sack.
You can watch Skinner rack up a sack HERE.
Lance Coon Lance Coon 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Humboldt | 2024 State IA , ATH, Humboldt
Coon blends power and speed into a complete package at running back. His film shows broken tackles and elusiveness followed by breakaway speed. It resulted in 1,566 yards (7.2 YPC) and 21 touchdowns on the ground. He added six receptions for 56 yards. He returned three kicks for 67 yards.

Cade Sears Cade Sears 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Harlan | 2024 State IA , WR, Harlan
Sears (6-1, 180) stresses defenses from the outside. He runs really crisp routes, underneath and over the top. He’s big enough to handle contact across the middle and fast enough to beat defenders deep. He shows reliable hands, and is a willing and able blocker in the run game. He has a knack for selling a route and then adjusting it based on the defender’s movement. He hauled in 46 balls for 973 yards (21.2 YPC) and 15 touchdowns. He returned seven kicks for 113 yards and 17 punts for 160 yards with a score. He added an interception on defense for good measure.

Colton Rasmussen, WR/TE, Atlantic
At 6-3, 180 pounds, Rasmussen provides a big target with long limbs for his quarterback. It resulted in 38 receptions for 762 yards (20.1 YPC) and 12 touchdowns in ’22. His routes set up defenders, often putting them on his inside hip as he runs by them. It opens up back-shoulder throws nicely. The athleticism that allows him to lead the Trojans basketball team in scoring this season shows up on the gridiron.
You can see Rasmussen’s highlights from the Glenwood game HERE.
Aiden Flora Aiden Flora 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH ADM | 2024 State IA , ATH, ADM
It’s fun watching Flora operate on the field unless you on the other sideline. He completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,773 yards and 19 touchdowns against just five interceptions in ’22. He rushed for 1,662 yards (11.2 YPC) and 17 more scores. He qualified for the state track meet in the 100 meters, and led off the Tigers’ 4×100 and 4×200 relays at the event as a sophomore last spring. He also finished eighth at the state wrestling meet last winter. I could see him possibly playing receiver or defensive back at the next level if he chooses football.
You can watch Flora’s junior highlights HERE.
Ben Kampman, DE, Solon
The son of former Aplington-Parkersburg, Iowa Hawkeye and NFL defensive end Aaron Kampman, Ben Kampman reminds me of his father, who I covered as a prep, in some ways. Ben plays with a great motor and is technically sound. If he can add some mass and strength, which seems doable, look out. A first-team all-state D-End, the young Kampman racked up 29 solo tackles, seven sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 38 quarterback pressures/hits as a junior in ’22. Ben visited Iowa this fall and should be on the radar of college programs as someone with nice upside.
