Still, schools hesitate offering scholarships to some recruits. It could be that they’re flying under the radar, coaches may want to see them at junior days or camps, they speculate that a bigger program might swoop in for the player or a variety of other reasons.
The Class of 2024 guys listed below I saw in person this season or watched highlights and asked around. They should be getting more attention, and it could be coming soon:
Connor Moberly Connor Moberly 6'4" | 200 lbs | QB Southeast Polk | 2024 State IA , QB, Southeast Polk
The Rams’ signal caller led his team to a state championship in his first year as the starter. Moberly (6-4, 195) boasts the requisite size for the position along with showing off a strong arm and ability to keep plays alive with his legs. He complete 70.7 percent of his passes for 1,954 yards and 14 touchdowns with only four interceptions in ’22. He added 105 yards and four scores on the ground.

Eddie Becu Eddie Becu 6'0" | 260 lbs | DL Xavier | 2024 IA , DL, Cedar Rapids Xavier
At 6-feet, 265 pounds, Becu disrupted opponents all season from his defensive line spot in helping the Saints win the Class 4A state championship. He plays with great leverage and benefits from a strong base with good footwork. He finished the season with 4.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks in earning second-team all-state honors. He often took on blocks in freeing up Xavier’s linebackers and safeties to make plays.

Kyler Gerardy, QB/ATH, North Scott
I was impressed when watching Gerardy in the state playoffs. While he’s not the biggest guy at the position, he’s a really good football player and an excellent athlete. He completed 70.3 percent of his passes in ’22 for 1,645 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions. He rushed for 1,217 yards (8.1 YPC) and 19 scores. He also served as the team’s punter. He was named first-team all-state as an offensive utility player. He’s a good enough athlete to come off quarterback at the next level.

Wyatt Dewitt Wyatt Dewitt 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Indianola | 2024 IA , DL, Indianola
DeWitt (6-2, 235) earned second-team all-state honors following a junior season that saw him register 14.5 tackles for loss with 6.5 sacks. He’s a high-motor player with solid athleticism. His performs with a pad level allowing him to drive through and around opponents. While he’s certainly productive on defense, he looks like a guy who could help on the interior of the offensive line on the next level as well.

Reed Pfaltzgraff Reed Pfaltzgraff 6'3" | 165 lbs | WR Bondurant-Farrar | 2024 IA , DB, Bondurant-Farrar
Pfaltzgraff (6-4, 170) is one of the state’s better athletes in the 2024 Class. He was named first-team all-state in football this season after intercepting four passes. He also caught 48 balls for 692 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s averaging 13.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 54.5 from behind the three-point arc early in this basketball season. He’s a two-sport college prospect still growing into his body.

Adrian Carrillo, RB/ATH, Spencer
No doubt Carrillo (5-9, 180) does not fit the mold of a college football player from a physical standpoint. And maybe he ends up playing a different sport at the next level. But I wouldn’t sleep on him competing on the gridiron. He stuffed the stat sheet as a junior but beyond that you see a gamer. He posted a combined 1,240 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing and receiving in ’22 to go with 3.0 sacks and 5.0 tackles for loss as a linebacker.
Brevin Doll Brevin Doll 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB ADM | 2024 State IA , ATH, Adel ADM
Doll (6-0, 185) reports a scholarship offer from Army. Others should already be on board here. The first-team all-state selection is a high-end athlete that produces on the field. He rushed for 1,475 yards (8.2 YPC) and 27 touchdowns this season. He also hauled in 33 passes for 640 yards and six scores. He averaged 38.8 yards on 12 kick returns and 25.0 yards on four punt returns. As a sophomore, he finished second in the Class 3A 100 meter final (10.74) at the state track meet
