In Texas, all of the state games were held at one place The AT&T Stadium in Dallas, TX. One of the best Stadiums in the country and there we get to witness the results of all these young men’s hard work. Throughout the weekend there were 12 games meaning 12 championship teams and 23 athletes that were awarded MVPs on both offense and defense. I will be breaking down all the offensive and defensive MVPs from each championship team.
6A Division II Desoto Eagles vs Austin Vandegrift Vipers (17-42)
Offense MVP (Desoto): #22 Deondrae Riden Jr RB So 5’11 180 lbs
Deondrae Riden is an electric running back and a massive threat every time he gets the ball in his hands. Deondrae was named offensive MVP for a reason he is fast, quick, and powerful what more do you want from your running back? Even when he isn’t running the block Deondrae is a great blocker taking two defenders out of the play and allowing Tre Wisner Tre Wisner 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB DeSoto | 2023 State TX to rush for 50 yards. Deondrae is the backbone of Desoto and will become more of a promising athlete in the next two years. Deondrae’s stats were 33 carries with 185 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Defense MVP (Desoto): #48 Jason Douglas DT Jr 6’3 245 lbs
Jason Douglas was on fire the entire game. Jason is a force of nature he looks like the ideal defensive tackle and plays like one as well. Jason is quick and fasts off the ball he uses power and finesses to get off the block and attack the ball holder. With Jason having all of these standout traits he was an obvious candidate for defensive MVP of the game. Jason’s stats were 6 total tackles, four TFLs, and 2 sacks.
6A Division I North Shore Mustangs vs Duncanville (Panthers 21-28)
Offense MVP (Duncanville): #29 Caden Durham Caden Durham 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Duncanville | 2024 State TX RB Jr 5’10 180 lbs
Caden Durham Caden Durham 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Duncanville | 2024 State TX is a tremendous and unstoppable running back. Caden was named offensive MVP for his explosive runs and many touchdowns. Caden every time he got the ball got a 1st down or touchdown. This was due to Caden’s speed and strength it was difficult to tackle and bring down Caden usually taking 2 or more defenders to tackle him. North Shore has one of the best defenses in the state and for Caden to make them struggle is a grand feat. Caden is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers from; Texas Tech University, Arizona State University, Texas Christian University, Louisiana State University, The University of Houston, The University of Oklahoma, and The University of Alabama to name a few. Caden’s stats were 105 rushing yards for 3 touchdowns.
Defense MVP (Duncanville): #8 Colin Simmons Colin Simmons 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Duncanville | 2024 State TX DE, DT Jr 6’2 215 lbs
Colin Simmons Colin Simmons 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Duncanville | 2024 State TX was the most aggressive, efficient, and consistent athlete during this game. I like to call Colin the anti-quarterback because it felt like every single play Colin was in the backfield attacking North Shore’s quarterback. Colin was a problem the whole night getting sacks, tackling the running back, quarterback hurries and swatting passes. Colin was an easy candidate for Defensive MVP and after their state championship loss to North Shore last year he said “I’ll be back” and he was correct. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Colin next season in his senior year. Colin’s stats were 5 total tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, and 2 QB hurries.
