Cass Tech defeats Detroit MLK 28-14
This is a phenomenal win for Cass Tech their 28-23 loss against King nearly a month ago. CJ Sadler was absolutely phenomenal, and big names were in attendance, such as Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning. Leeshaun Mumpfield Leeshaun Mumpfield 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Cass Tech | 2023 State MI also played very well. This solidifies Cass Tech in the playoffs, and these are two programs that are championship contenders.
Dexter defeats Saline 21-14
From what I saw on Twitter, it was an incredible atmosphere and an electric game. The game concluded with an unsuccessful 4th and goal for Saline. Cole Cabana Cole Cabana 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Dexter | 2023 State MI had an incredible game, and Micah Davis received an incredible offer from Michigan directly after the game. It was a spectacular night for Dexter, who I now have as the D2 State Championship Favorite. As for Saline, they drop two in a row. Lake Orion next week is a sure trap game and another game that should prove extremely competitive.
Spring Lake defeats Unity Christian 35-32
This is one of the most shocking upsets of the year. Even though UC is on a heavy down year, they were heavily favored for this one. Spring Lake was a good team last season, but after losing their head coach, they seemed to have significantly regressed this season. Everything on paper pointed towards a big UC win, but Spring Lake pulled off the impossible.
Farmington defeats Seaholm 39-21
The Falcons earn their most impressive win of the season over one of the few undefeated teams in the state. These teams had multiple common opponents, and Seaholm won by a much larger margin in most instances. This meant that Seaholm came into this one as the favorite, but Farmington had the better gameplan. Seaholm went into the half up 14-7, but Farmington made just the right adjustments to exploit the Maple defense, outscoring them 32-7 in the second half. I look forward to seeing stats from this game.
De La Salle defeats River Rouge 19-18
These are two state-championship-worthy teams, and both showed that last night. Freshman Damion Mack had a nice game, and I’m looking forward to diving deeper into this one tomorrow.
Clarkston defeats Lapeer 48-13
Clarkston can beat anyone in the state, and they just defeated a Lapeer team that had been rolling until last night. This team has the right amount of college talent, and they all seem to be playing as one. Nobody is going to want to play Clarkston in the postseason. Whoever draws Clarkston during round 1 is going to sigh.
East Kentwood defeats Hudsonville 29-20
This fully solidifies a playoff spot for East Kentwood and leaves Hudsonville out of the postseason. It’s a great win for EK, and they could upset a team or two in the postseason. This program is on the rise! Hudsonville, on the other hand, was very loud this preseason, having a vocal fanbase often saying they were being extremely underrated. Well. Maybe next season?
