Both teams were 3-2 heading into the matchup and it was set up to be one heck of a game. Not only was this a back and forth game with momentum swings but it went down to the FINAL play with TWO second left in the game. Lincoln-Way West was down by 6 with two seconds left in the game taking the snap around the 35 yard line. In the final play, Standout Cole Crafton Cole Crafton 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Lincoln Way West | 2024 State IL got flushed out of the pocket and saw green grass in front of him so he pulled the ball down to scramble and fell short of the endzone resulting in the Porters coming away with a 34 to 28 win over the Warriors. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the Porters that caught my eye. Let’s dive into it.

Mr. Benaitis is a shifty type of route runner that can get in/out of his breaks quickly. This results in him breaking defenders off at the top of the route creating separation on the play. He also can get lost when running play action as he ended up being wide open on a deep shot downfield which resulted in six for the Porters. All in all, his ability to break defenders off is one to keep an eye on and I look forward to seeing how he produces for the rest of this fall season. Twitter

rnMr. Pfeiffer is taking over for former Standout QB Hayden Timosciek that took his talents to Purdue University. This young man ended up finishing with 4 total TDs, two coming from the air attack and two coming in the ground game. In his two passing TDs, he flashes his ability to add a touch on the ball. What stood out the most was his foot quicks and ability to pull the ball down to scramble if nothing was open downfield. He did so on more than one occasion with two of them resulting in TDs. His awareness to feel pocket pressure and slide helps him find the open alley to pull the ball down to scramble, just take a look at his TD run below to see for yourself. Look for this young man to do much of the same for the remainder of this season and I’m very interested to see the numbers he produces as a result. Twitter
Giovani Zaragoza
Giovani Zaragoza
Mr. Zaragoza is a new name to me this fall season that showcased his low center of gravity all night Friday night. Pair this with his shiftiness as well as hard running and you got yourself a young man that was hard to take down all night long. What made things harder for the opposing defense is how he can weave in/out of defenders in open space by planting his foot into the ground to change directions quickly. This messes up the flow of the linebackers and pursuit angles of the secondary defenders. The result you might ask was this young man breaking long runs to keep the Porter’s drive going. Overall, if you’re looking for a halfback that can get lost behind blockers and is shifty in open space look no further as Mr. Zaragoza can do just that. Twitter

I always love finding new O-linemen that come onto my radar and that’s the same with Mr. Rigoni. His ability to run block in-line caught my eye initially as he can jolt defenders upright with a strong punch. What stands out the most about this young man is his ability to mirror in pass protection to tie up the rushing defender. There wasn’t a snap where he was in pass protection where he let the defender get past him to generate pressure on his QB. Safe to say his pass pro display Friday night was impressive to say the least. All in all, I would watch how this young man performs the rest of this fall season as he could be a hidden gem for colleges at the next level.
robert baranowski

The outside linebacker Mr. Baranowski was making his mark in run support Friday night making plays both between the tackles and on the perimeter. This is where his heavy hitting was displayed as he was sticking ball carriers for no gain all night long. There was one hit where you could hear the impact of his pads on the ball carrier’s pads making a loud “pop” sound. Let’s not forget his involvement in pass coverage where he also used his heavy-hitting ability to force incomplete passes. All in all, I’m happy to have seen this young man in action as his ability to close and stick ballcarriers is impressive. Twitter

Mr. Mutz really shined when he came away with back-to-back pass breakups in the redzone late in the game. He was able to do so by staying on the receiver’s hip pocket and breaking on the ball to contest the catch – both times. It’s this type of skill set that caught my eye and I’m looking forward to seeing how consistent he can be here the rest of the season. Twitter
john sherrod
john sherrod
Mr. Sherrod is a young inside linebacker for the Porters that flashes his ability to slip blocks to meet the ball carrier in the hole and fill gaps in run support. There were a few instances where he did just that Friday night. In pass coverage, he was able to get to the hook/curl drop taking away mid-field options at times. What I’m interested to see out of this young man is how he’s not only able to finish this season but also how he develops over the years. Currently, he’s positioned himself quite well with the skillset he displayed Friday night as a balanced interior linebacker. An up-and-coming young man to watch. Twitter
aiden preciado

rnMr. Preciado is the second halfback that the Porters have in their arsenal. Not only is he a threat in the ground game with his foot quicks weaving in/out of defenders, but he can also be a threat in the air attack. Most prominently when running seam routes out of the backfield. When he did so, he was able to gain a step on the 2nd level and secure the catch in the soft spot before breaking the run for 6. This was only a one-game sample where he was the secondary halfback option behind Mr. Zaragoza, but I’m interested in how he’s able to perform once he takes on a full load of carries per game. A young man with good potential.
