Liberty @ Basha
Both teams come into the contest undefeated, and both are clear open division playoff contenders. Liberty is absolutely rolling through opponents, as they are fresh off a very impressive win over Saguaro 26-17. With the exception of last week’s win, Liberty has 3 blowout wins vs 3 solid teams in Sunrise Mountain, Pinnacle, and Valor Christian (CO). Basha is doing the exact same, as they have outscored their opponents 255-52 within a 5 game span. Definitely one of the most anticpated regular season matchups of the 2022 season.
Notre Dame Prep @ Desert Mountain
NDP enters the contest 4-1 with their lone loss coming against Chandler a few weeks back. The Noah Trigueros Noah Trigueros 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Notre Dame Prep | 2024 State AZ to Cooper Perry Cooper Perry 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Notre Dame | 2025 State AZ connection has been lethal thus far, as they’ve established possibly the best QB-WR connection in the state. Desert Mountain looks to stay perfect and make it 6-0 as they’ve been dominant thus far blowing out 3 out of 5 opponents. They had back to back close game wins against 6A Mountain View and 6A Chaparral. So right now, Desert Mountain should be the clear #1 seed for the 5A playoffs, but NDP has a big shot to change that.
Desert Edge @ Saguaro
Desert Edge heads to Saguaro with a 4-1 record with their lone loss coming at Highland a few weeks back. All 4 of their wins have been blowouts with wins over Cactus Shadows, Goldwater, Ironwood Ridge, and Cienega. They’re a top 5A contender looking to hand Saguaro their 4 loss of the season, which is almost unheard of. Saguaro, however, has had the toughest schedule thus far dropping games to nationally ranked Bergan Catholic (NJ), Chandler, and Liberty. Their remaining schedule doesn’t give them any favors, so this is a must win for Saguaro.
Perry @ Hamiton
Coach Ortiz has Perry looking revived with a 4-1 record here in 2022 with their loss coming against Corona del Sol. This Perry defense hs been very impressive as they’ll look to keep the momentum against a premier region rival with an explosive offense. Hamilton also enters the contest 4-1 with a blowout loss at Bishop Gorman, but they’ve been playing with a chip on their shoulder ever since. They’re fresh off a close 10-8 win over Highland where their defense continued to turn heads, and they’ll also look to keep that defensive momentum rolling into this week.
Eastmark @ Florence
These two are definitely toward the top of the chain at the 3A level and sure playoff teams. Eastmark enters the contest 5-1 with their lone loss being a 30-31 tough matchup vs Thatcher, while also shocking the state and handing 4A powerhouse ALA-Gilbert North their lone loss of the year in OT. Florence is looking to stay perfect as they come in with a 6-0 record, and have been finding out ways to squeak out those close games. Florence will have their biggest challange of the season this week, and could potentially meet Eastmark again in the playoffs.
