These conference foes came into this game on opposite sides of the spectrum as the Trevians of New Trier were sitting at 3-3 on the year with a three-game winning streak; while the Titans of Glenbrook South were sitting pretty at 5-1 coming off of their first loss of the season. That being said, we couldn’t have seen two teams further apart coming into this game, but it ended up being a battle until the end for these inner conference opponents.
First Quarter – The game got underway Friday night underneath the dark of the night, and it looked like this was going to be battle early as the Titans of Glenbrook South got their hands on the ball first. It was made apparent early that this Titans team would be a hard-nosed team who would be pounding the ball all night long, and such it was as Glenbrook South took the hard yards all night behind their 1-2 punch of senior Charlie Gottfred and senior Hank Leahy. Behind these two young men and a couple of crucial fourth down conversions, the Titans marched down the field on a long, methodical drive that took up nine minutes and fifteen seconds of the first half, which ended in a ten-yard running touchdown by Charlie Gottfred. Then the Trevian offense of New Trier got their chance to show out with 2:45 left in the first quarter. However, this would be an opening drive for the Trevian offense that began to highlight sophomore quarterback Patrick Heneghan Patrick Heneghan 5'11" | 200 lbs | QB New Trier | 2025 State IL ‘s ability to scramble as he would be extending plays early with his feet to give his offense a shot at scoring; albeit, the Trevian offense would come up short on their first chance at scoring due to a Titans stop on fourth and short. This drive would take us to the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter – The second quarter got underway with the ball in the Titan’s hands on a drive that appeared to be similar to the first drive of the game, with the Titans plowing the ball downfield behind their two stout running backs, and a pass thrown in here and there by senior quarterback Hunter Kreske to keep the Trevian defense on their toes. However, this time would be different as the Trevian defense would get a stop deep in their own Redzone and force the field goal attempt by the Titans, which went through the uprights and left us at 10-0 Titans with 8:36 left in the second quarter. However, after a quick turnaround by the Trevian offense after the punt, the ball would be left in the hands of the Titan offenses again. The Titans would then catch the Trevian defense snoozing and capitalize off a deep shot to senior receiver Griffin Dahiya by quarterback Hunter Kreske. The game would then be 17-0 Titans with 6:35 left in the second quarter, and it was beginning to seem like the Titans were going to start tearing the roof off of this game and pull away early. However, pinned deep on their side of the field, the Trevian offense would begin to show some life behind a deep pass and catch between Trevian quarterback Patrick Heneghan Patrick Heneghan 5'11" | 200 lbs | QB New Trier | 2025 State IL and two-way player Miles Cremascoli Miles Cremascoli 6'3" | 205 lbs | ATH New Trier | 2024 State IL that would take the Trevians to mid-field before the half. However, this push would come up short, and we would go into the half at 17-0 with the Titan’s lead.
Third Quarter– The third quarter began, and the Titans came out with the ball, but the Trevian defense looked like they were starting to gain life as we would see a spectacular open-field tackle by Tyler Jackson, which would lead to the Trevian offense getting the ball. The Trevian offense would be riding off of their defenses high as they would march the field, albeit against a tough defensive push by the Titans, and score off of a passing touchdown by Patrick Heneghan Patrick Heneghan 5'11" | 200 lbs | QB New Trier | 2025 State IL on the ten-yard line. This touchdown would get the Trevians on board at 7-17 with 3:15 left in the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter – The fourth quarter would prove to be a defensive battle as there wouldn’t be much scoring due to the defenses playing stout. However, the Titan offense would squeak one more in off of an 8-yard run by Tommy MacPherson, taking the game to the final score of 24-7 Titans. The Trevian offense would get the ball back, but the game-sealing play would come from an interception from Titan defender Tyrone Cotton with 2:41 left in the fourth quarter. The Titan offense would then get the ball and run the clock out.
Game – The Titans came out with the 24-7 win over the Trevians in a hard-fought battle until the end.
