Over the course of the 2022 season, one team who has quietly gone about their business and continued to win games on a consistent basis has been the Beech Buccaneers and last night was no different as they took the Class 6A-Region 5 title with a 42-7 victory over the Gallatin Green Wave.
It was an impressive win for the Bucs as they went on the road and dominated a Green Wave team that sports multiple college prospects and a team that will find themselves in postseason play come November.
The Bucs commanded the game from the get go where they established Darius Johnson Darius Johnson 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Beech | 2023 State TN and the run game early and continued to feed the senior running back throughout as the Green Wave defense just couldn’t find an answer.
Johnson has been an absolute beast so far this season for the Buccaneers and has legitimately put himself in contention for Mr. Football in the Class 6A ranks. He has run for over 800 yards and 10 plus touchdowns through eight games while averaging more than 12 yards per carry. His play has been huge for the Bucs offense and a big reason why they are region champs and a strong contender come postseason play.
Running the ball against the Green Wave defense wasn’t the only offensive firepower the Bucs brought to Gallatin last night as their passing game was on point as well.
Junior quarterback Justyce Law put together a stellar performance on Friday night, giving the Bucs offense balance and complimenting Johnson well and showing upside as a prospect to watch going forward.
Law is a bit undersized but shows great athleticism and poise behind center as well as the arm talent that plays up well on the next level. This guy will be a talent to watch over the next offseason to see how he develops and works himself into a legit college recruit.
Not to be outshined by the offense, the Beech defense was outstanding yet again. The Bucs shut down the Gallatin rushing attack on Friday night and kept their offense in check to where they just could not get anything going.
Led by stud senior linebackers Tyler Nix Tyler Nix 6'4" | 220 lbs | ATH Beech | 2023 State TN and Bronco Hanks Bronco Hanks 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Beech | 2023 State TN , the Beech defense knows how to play technique sound football and understand their keys against the opposition and all that showed up big last night in their demolition of the Green Wave offense.
No matter what Gallatin wanted to do with the ball in their hands, they couldn’t move it against a stout Buccaneers defense that was opportunistic and always in the right spot.
Looking ahead with the region title wrapped up, Beech has two final games remaining with two home games against a good Brentwood team and their final in-region matchup against Rossview before we begin postseason play in November.
The Bucs will receive a top seed, barring them losing their final two games and be considered a Top 10 contender to play their way to Chattanooga. This is not a flashy team but they are a consistent, smart football team that you don’t want to see in the playoffs and you don’t have to ask them to play hard because that’s in their DNA.
Last night’s commanding win over Gallatin just solidifies how good this Beech team is this year and how well they are playing strong football at the right time of the season.
