Continue ReadingWestern Pennsylvania is a region that’s rich with football talent yearly. The transfer portal has altered recruiting for high school prospects in terms of visibility. Due to the abundance of eligible recruits, some high school athletes have become recruiting collateral damage. I’m going to be highlighting some of the underrated or unheralded prospects around western pa in the 2023 & 2024 classes. These recruits spotlighted are either uncommitted or haven’t been offered altogether in a lot of cases. These gems will be introduced in a series of articles to adequately spotlight their abilities.
Tracy currently has 2 offers from FCS Fordham & Bucknell. The senior athlete is lethal on offense and defense for West Allegheny. Tracy has good speed & body control in general as an athlete. He’s very elusive and balanced which allows him to break would-be tackles. Nodin has make-up speed at DB coupled with breakaway speed on offense. West A’s leader displays great agility cutting off one foot at full speed. Tracy is also a good route runner with reliable pass-catching hands. Defensively, Nodin’s a ballhawk in coverage who contests anything near him. The 2023 prospect is strong & doesn’t allow any extra yardage on his tackles. Tracy plays with physicality & punishes ball carriers.
Meltzer is receiving FBS & FCS interests for Defensive Back. Campbell’s older brother Corey plays DB at FCS Lehigh University. The senior athlete maintains a good pad level in his pedal, & he transitions smoothly running with the receiver. He’s a smart player that triggers quickly to the flat on short run & pass plays. His open-field tackling and play-recognition skills are sharp. I think Campbell is suited to play FS in college on the D1 level.Â
Highlights
Sherrod being courted by FCS & D2 institutions mostly. Leonard is a college-size DB right now in high school. The 6’3 SS has sharp play recognition & reacts well contesting the ball. He has good footwork & hips which allows him to be rangy on the backend. He’s a good open-field tackler that isn’t afraid to run the alley. Sherrod has valuable game experience playing in big games at Gateway High School. Leonard has the size and speed to be a well equipped special teams member.Â
Noah has currently being recruited by FCS & D2 schools. Earlier this season, the big framed DL went to Youngstown State on a Gameday visit. Yeh recently picked up his first D2 offer from Lock Haven in the PSAC. The senior DL has a good get-off & plays with a good pad level. He displays a good motor rushing the QB & finishing stretch plays. Noah is good at using his hands on blitzes & disengaging defenders. Shady Side’s DE has good mobility, & he redirects well when chasing ball carriers to the sideline. Yeh’s capable of playing FCS football, & he’s flat-out a no-brainer offer for D2 schools.Â
Ryan is getting a lot of attention from FCS programs & presently has offers from D2 Wheeling and West Liberty. The senior OL has great upper body strength and he finishes his blocks until the whistle sounds. Sometimes Ryan can get a little high in pass protection, but his punch is strong when he anchors down on his sets. Farrell displays physicality, he regularly pancakes defenders to the turf on tape. Once he cleans up the little imperfections in his footwork on pulling plays, his nastiness will allow him to be a really tough matchup for anyone. Ryan is best suited to be an interior Offensive Linemen in college.Â
