Gateway & Woodland Hills clash in week 2 to see who will remain undefeated. Coach Don Holl & the Gators are no strangers to success going for their 3rd WPIAL title in 6 six years. Mt. Lebanon the reigning state champs, couldn't pull out the opener falling 21-7 to Gateway. Woody High traveled across the state to defeat York William Penn in a 28-24 hard fought victory. Any week these two schools play there will be no shortage of Prospects. Below are some of college prospects to look out for in this storied matchup.

Gateway Prospects

[player_tooltip player_id='64000' first='Brad' last='Birch'] QB 6'2, 180 (2024)

Offers: Oregon, Akron

Twitter: @BradBirch12

Big time prospect that has the arm strength to make all of the throws. Birch has good footwork in the pocket with a good high throwing release. Goes through his progressions well with poise & throws his WRs open in man coverage. His offense runs a lot of play action & RPO's, which explains his precision reading his keys. Birch knows when to put touch on a pass or when to throw it on a line. He is a high volume passer that's experienced reading secondary coverages. Knows how to look Safeties off & doesn't lock onto his WRs. Ultra productive leading the WPIAL in passing in 2021.

22' : Did a little bit of everything from QB leading his team to victory against MLHS. He looked sharp on deep and intermediate throws. He also had great technique on play action plays when going downfield. Hit multiple WRs for TDs & spread the ball around all game. His arm strength and ball placement have improved even more from 2021.

https://twitter.com/BradBirch12/status/1565116308789796869?s=20&t=jtesyXEwmMlQRbDoBiXIgQ

[player_tooltip player_id='256146' first='Remy' last='Bose'], LT/TE, Gateway 6-1, 210 FBS (1) (2025)

Toledo, UMASS

Twitter: @RemyBose1

Physical & an above average athlete In general. At LB he's shown good instincts with a high football IQ. Plays sideline to sideline with a good motor. Good at reading his LB keys, & transitioning from run to pass. Bose is a good blizter that plays well with his hands. Good at zone dropping and tackling in space. Remy is capable of covering RBs in man out of the backfield. At TE he is a physical blocking finisher, and an able body WR. He is able to make tough catches in traffic. His speed looks to be btw 4.6-4.7.

https://twitter.com/RemyBose1/status/1524085159737413634?s=20&t=_qBdN4hUa8PVPrcyPfSD3A

nez Jordan 5'11 175 WR/CB (2023)

Receiving interest from FCS (No offers yet)

Twitter: @jordan_anez

Possesses good quick twitch & explosion overall on offense & defense. Physical tackler that gets hands on in press man coverage. Good play recognition & reaction in run & pass reads. Good press man technique along with make up speed. Very elusive with the ball in hand, with good lateral quickness. Has a lot in his toolbox when press releasing. Good straight line speed & can win vertically on deep routes. AJ is smooth route runner with fluid footwork. His twitch & explosion allows him to be quick in and out of breaks. Vs MLHS AJ went for 80yds with a TD(37 yd post) where he had a sharpe stab break on a post with good speed on the reception.

Matt Brooks OL 6'2 265 (2023)

Offers: Duquense

Twitter: @MattBrooksJr

Plays with a good pad level at OL with a strong physical punch. Runs a 4.9 40ydd & has the athletic ability to finish blocks on the second level as the leading blocker. He is a good puller but needs to work on his pad level on contact when pulling. It will be interesting to see Brooks matched up against the Wolverine's D1 O & D lineman.

22' : Looked explosive coming out of his stance at OL/DL. He possesses violent strong hands but he is particularly great at the initial pop firing out. Finished multiple blocks on offense with physicality & strength. Brooks is capable of being an interior Dlineman OG or Center in college.

Jaquan Reynolds, RB/DB, Gateway 5-7, 164 FBS (1) (2024)

Offers: Temple, Bowling Green, UMASS, Akron

Twitter: @Jaquon_5

Dynamic with the ball in hand, has similar ability to Tavon Austin. Explosive speed with above average lateral quickness. Great WR out of the backfield & is also able to play slot collegiately. Runs the football with good patience, vision and speed. Still has 2 years to improve before college. One of those players that you find ways to get the ball in his hands (reverses, Jet sweeps, screens etc). Will be a very able & dangerous return specialist on the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='249241' first='Dallas' last='Harper'] 6'1 187 WR/FS (2023)

Offers: Bluefield St, has a lot of FBS/FCS interest

Twitter: @dharper_2

Dallas is a fluid press releaser and a smooth route runner. He is a big body WR with great catch radius & receives the ball away from his body on receptions. Good at finding the holes in zone coverage. His junior year he caught 27/450 6 TDs in the 5A classification. At free safety Dallas has good footwork & technique which allows him to cover a lot of ground on the backend. He is good at making plays on the football & got an INT in the opener against MLHS. Harper is also a good tackler who runs the alley well.

[player_tooltip player_id='160579' first='Racari' last='El'] 6'2 210 OLB/DE/TE

(No Offers) Receiving Interest from FBS, FCS, D2

Twitter: @official_cari3

He is projected as an OLB/DE on the next level with his 6'2 210 lbs frame. On his zone drops El is good at getting to the body of the WR before coming up to tackle. Athletic enough to tackle RBs in space receiving out of the backfield. Racari is a good blocker from the TE/Hback position. He latches on his blocks and often times finishes the defender to the dirt.

Woodland Hills Prospects

Pierce Cannon 6'5 300 OL/DL (2024)

Offers: Syracuse, Kent State, Akron

Twitter: @pierce_cannon7

Cannon started receiving offers in May, his biggest coming from P5 Syracuse. He is one of 3 OL on the Wolverines who've been giving the distinction as an FBS product. Last week Woodland Hills beat York William Penn 28-24. Pierce & the rest of the OL cleared the way for Elijah Nesby to rush for 127 yds & 3 TDs. In week 2 Woody High is matched up against Gateway in a classic WPIAL battle.

[player_tooltip player_id='357942' first='Kellen' last='McDonough'] 6'5 290 OL (2) FBS/FCS (2023)

Robert Morris, Duquesne, Navy, Indiana State

Twitter: @McdonoughKellen

Moves well for his frame & has long arms. He is physical in the box and drives ppl back. McDonough is able to get blocks on the second level. He has a nasty OL demeanor & finishes blocks to the turf. He doesn't explode out his DL stance, but plays well with his hands and makes plays behind the LOS. McDonough is one of the leaders on this team and has to play well for the Wolverines to remain undefeated.

https://twitter.com/McdonoughKellen/status/1564620595576180739?s=20&t=jtesyXEwmMlQRbDoBiXIgQ

Elijah Nesby RB (2025)

(No Offers)

Nesby lead the ground attack week 1 for the Wolverines. He rushed for 127 yds & 3 scores against York William Penn High School. Woody High will face Gateway week 2 & the likes of D1 recruit [player_tooltip player_id='256146' first='Remy' last='Bose']. It will be interesting to see if the state ranked Gators can slow down the sophomore RB.

Mejuan Rose 6'5 283 OL/DL (1) (2024)

Offers: Akron, Kent State

Big time lineman that is hard to move in the interior run game. Rose fires out of his stance well with good strength on his initial punch. Plays behind the LOS and never gets driven back. He isn't super explosive but his strength & physicality is elite. Mejuan is only a Jr, so his speed & agility will continually develop over the the next 2 years. His strength allows him to get full extension on lockouts when redirecting in run pursuit. Has a nose for the ball and gets interior pressure consistently pass rushing. Rose will have his hands full trying to slow down Gateway RB Jaqaun Reynolds.

Steve Jenkins 6'3 185 CB/WR (2024)

(No Offers)

Twitter:@stevenjenkinsJ1

Big cornerback frame that will make it hard for WPIAL teams to go deep on. If he continues to fill out he could develop into a Safety. He plays zone coverage well & makes plays on the ball. Jenkins also has the physicality to match his size & is a decent open field tackler. I haven't seen him in man a ton, but he has the tools to be a tough matchup.

22' : last week Jenkins had a 8 tackles, 1 INT & 1 pbu in route to beating York William Penn in

week 1.

[player_tooltip player_id='255091' first='Amere' last='Brown'] 5'9 160 WR/CB (2) (2025)

Offers: Bryant (Bball), 2nd team all conf as a Freshman

Twitter: @Pgh_Mere23

Amere is 3 sport athlete that picked up his first D1 bball offer this summer. All conference 5A DB as a freshman with 2 INTs. Has good make up speed at CB which will only going to get better with time. He is a playmaker in general that plays the ball well. He has good DB footwork & is a willing tackler. He needs to work on his strength which will obviously keep improving over the next 3 yrs.

[player_tooltip player_id='98215' first='Brandon' last='Jones'] 5'7 180 RB (2025)

(No Offers)

Twitter: @BJONES15104

Has good accelerating speed coupled with great lateral quickness. He is very elusive in the open field and sets his blocks up well. Strong physical runner with a compact frame at 5'7 180. He can run inside or outside rush plays effectively. Jones is very capable of being a homerun hitter. He is tough back that runs with patience & vision. Dangerous return specialist the has speed ability to take it to the house. Good WR out of the backfield that can rack up the YAC.
