Sohler has been playing well to start the season and this was expected out of the ever-talented senior but he perks my interest for the team that Yankton is going to face this upcoming week. Sohler is going to face tough coverage in the secondary in Pierre TF Riggs who has been known to rough up receivers with their physical style of play that works on Swifty slot wideouts. This is where we see Sohler’s advantage over this secondary comes into play with his ability to use his upper body strength to overpower defenders instead of just blowing past them with speed. While he does have speed in his bag of skills, I like his ability to make backs play the game on his terms and have the offense funnel through him in the receiving game. With the natural that he has in his possession as well as the matchups going into this game, I think we will see him show us why he is an upper-level receiver in South Dakota.
Julian Scott Julian Scott 5'11" | WR Rapid City Stevens | 2023 State – Rapid City Stevens, 5’11” 165lbs
Scott has been running around everyone to start this year off right and I am looking for him to go for plenty of yards in this upcoming matchup this week. Scott has been on a tear with his role as a speed slotback who can shift anywhere going quite well and he is living up to the hype in all aspects of it. Rapid City Stevens is facing the O’Gorman Knights and so far their defense has been playing up to the task against nearly all of the teams that they have faced. That being said Scott can exploit one key weakness that the Knights have seen to have that year which is the ability to cover speed receivers in exclusively man coverage. Scott can use press and even farther back man coverage to his advantage for the burst of speed and acceleration that he can generate in such a short period. Even if they try to box him in with some zone packages, he breaks the coverage shells well too with his uncanny ability to find holes that the defense tends to leave open. Scott has shown to us time and time again that few can truly contain him when he hits his stride and that is something that should translate onto the field this upcoming week.
John Parker John Parker WR SF Roosevelt | 2023 State – Sioux Falls Roosevelt, 6’1 160lbs
I like Parker’s game for plenty of reasons and there are so many other reasons why we will see him go off this weekend against Brandon Valley. Roosevelt has been off to a slow start to the year and that is of no fault to players who studded this team, it is simply a matter of facing some truly tough teams throughout the year. Parker while a bit undersized for his height makes up for that aspect in his ability to be agile and very mobile for someone that we see at his height. He can play just about any role you need out of a receiver and all of his production does not need to come from catching passes from his quarterback. He can run block and is just an overall great player to have for you to throw some blocks down. He can catch passes deep downfield and that is where I think we will see his talents used well against Brandon Valley who is struggled to guard the deep ball as the season has gone on. Watch out for Parker to catch some passes deep and rack up some big gains along the way to get Roosevelt a win in that column.
Logan Winckler Logan Winckler WR Bon Homme | 2023 State – Bon Homme, 5’11” 170lbs
Winckler is a star for his team and that is clear when watching the talent that he puts out on the field I think he is due this week to show us everything that he has in his bag. The skills that he posses are second to none in his conference and are up there with some of the top talents that South Dakota has to offer. His team will be facing a defense that has some holes in it with Stanley County and I think we will see Winckler exploit that any chance that he gets. He has been known to find any hole in the secondary and use that to gain yards at an explosive rate, and because of that, his IQ for a receiver is simply off the charts. With that in mind, this weekend will be a master class for Winckler since he is going up against a defense that at times has shown to struggle to defend against the pass, and his ability to break defenses down at the same, star him for someone to watch and see his stats pour in as the game goes on.
