The Firebirds are slated to clash with district rival Lakota East this Friday in what should be an excellent matchup. As West prepares for its highly anticipated contest, I wanted to look at some of their top 2024 prospects. West is consistently loaded with division one talent & this 2022 squad is no different. Head coach Tom Bolden should not only be excited about the roster he has this fall but also the one that’s waiting in the wings over the next few seasons. This is a program that is no doubt built for sustainable success.
DB: Bukari Miles, 6’2″ 180
- A lengthy cornerback prospect that transitions well out of his backpedal.
- Miles sinks into his zone seeing through the nearest receiver to the quarterback.
- He’s comfortable playing man in the slot and could find a role early in a nickel or dime package.
WR: Brennan Remy, 6′ 170
- A possession-type receiver prospect with some wiggle in space.
- Can easily drop his hips and shut it down at the top of his route & work back towards the quarterback.
- Has some craftiness to his game that can seemingly create big plays out of nowhere.
- More than willing to go over the middle.
ATH: Gabriel Flores, 6’2″ 230
- Plenty of positional versatility between playing defensive end or inside linebacker.
- Holds his own against zone double teams.
- Takes quality angles to the football to ensure no cutbacks can be made.
- Devours ball carriers that make their way through the second level.
LB: Jacob Asbeck, 6’1″ 185
- Acceleration and motor lead to a ton of unblocked tackles from the backside.
- Is quite sudden when he reads run and fits his gap.
- Proven to be an instinctive blitzer with some bend.
- Creates a plethora of negative plays via sacks or TFLs.
DT: Elijah Davis Elijah Davis 6'2" | 285 lbs | DL Lakota West | 2024 State OH , 6’2″ 285
- Has hands like bricks on contact.
- Shows a quick first step.
- His relentless playing style leads to extra production on the backend.
- Uses his leverage and well-trained hand-fighting ability to slip blocks on the inside.
DB: Taebron Bennie-Powell Taebron Bennie-Powell 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Lakota West | 2024 State OH , 6’2″ 190
- Is a more than willing inbox tackler who enjoys playing up on the line.
- Has the top-end speed to chase ball carriers down from behind.
- Long arms make it easy for him to push-pull opposing blockers.
- Has some serious pop behind his tackles.
