West Bloomfield 47 Sterling Heights Stevenson 7
Reqez Nance Reqez Nance 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI , Deonte Pippen Jr, Semaj Josiah Moragan, and many others balled out for the Lakers last night in the dismantling of Stevenson. This is a scary team that I’m confident will finish 1st or 2nd in the OAA Red. As for Stevenson, either they had a off night, or they’ve truly regressed from last season where they made a deep playoff run.
West Bloomfield faces a talented Harper Woods team next week while Stevenson has a more managable matchup vs. Lakeview.
Dakota 21 Brother Rice 7
Dakota took revenge from last season’s 35-21 loss against the Warriors. Ethan Hamby Ethan Hamby 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Macomb Dakota | 2023 State MI played well and the Cougars played suffocating defense agaisnt an inexperienced QB. It also helped Dakota that Nolan Ray Nolan Ray 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Brother Rice | 2023 State MI was out with a knee injury, but let’s not get things twisted, Dakota earned the W.
Brother Rice will make the trip out to East Kentwood next week while Dakota is set to face 1-0 Utica at Home.
Brighton 35 Fordson 14
Wow! I did not expect this outcome, especially not this lopsided. I have yet to find specific stats, but one name I did hear about is QB/S Grant Hetherton Grant Hetherton 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Brighton | 2024 State MI . This is a game I would like to watch film of, and Brighton may prove to be better than I thought they were. As for Fordson, they did have a massive exodous because of their 2022 class, and I thought they’d be more competitive than this.
Next Week Brighton takes on Salem while Fordson travels to Livonia Stevenson.
Davison 28 Clarkston 21
I expected this to be a good game but for Davison to win by a score, and that’s exactly what happened. The Davison Front 7 led by Carter Herriman Carter Herriman 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Davison | 2024 State MI and Tyler Dosh Tyler Dosh 6'0" | 225 lbs | DL Davison | 2024 State MI made some big plays down the stretch to secure the win. Ethan Clark Ethan Clark 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Clarkston | 2023 State MI heavily impressed, but the Wolves came up short. Both of these teams will be extremely successful this season.
Next Week Davison has a great matchup agaisnt DET Catholic Central while Clarkston has a challenge agaisnt Southfield A&T.
Adams 42 OLSM 14
I expected Adams to win, but not by this margin. Parker Picot Parker Picot 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Rochester Adams | 2023 State MI played out of his mind while the Veer offense didn’t miss a beat despite key weapons needing to be replaced. Adams just dispelled all my concerns of them not being able to live up to last year. St. Mary’s on the other hand has the talent, but this is a young team that will eventually learn to play together.
Adams travels to Rival Rochester next week while OLSM faces an underrated Hudsonville squad.
Walled Lake Western 47 South Lyon 26
Look out for Walled Lake Western this year, because they just dismantled a team that went 12-1 last season. Darius Taylor Darius Taylor 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI may have had the #1 performance of Week 1 with 345 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns in addition to 2 cathes for 47 yards (77.2 Fantasy points if this was the NFL). All in all, Walled Lake Western is a historic powerhouse and they may just be back to their usual dominance. South Lyon didn’t have a bad offensive performance putting up 26 points, but their defense obviously needs some work.
WLW takes on a promising Walled Lake Northern team while South Lyon will try and rebound against Milford.
Seaholm 38 Bloomfield Hills 21
The Maples took over in the 2nd half and ran away with this one. The Veer worked well, demonstated by 4 seperate players scoring the points. This Tweet by Athletic Trainer Bill Watson aka “Aloe” sums the game up nicely for Seaholm.
As for Bloomfield Hills, they’ve been a inconsistnet program as of late and it will be interesting to see how the season plays out for them.
Week 2: Seaholm faces UofD while Bloomfield Hills will face a tough Stoney Creek team.
Cass Tech 26 Southfield A&T 24 (ONGOING TODAY)
This is an amazing matchup with plenty of starpower that was sadly stopped early due to fighting in the stands (come on now). The matchup will resume tonight with NO SPECTATORS. @Athlazon on Twitter has been covering this matchup well.
