Continue ReadingThe most important position on the football field is arguably the quarterback for most teams. The state of Arizona is filled with top talent at the position. With over 9,000 yards in the air combined between these quarterbacks and a plethora of touchdown scores, they will their teams to W’s. These four QBs lead their team on and off the field and are key players to watch for this fall.
Jack Germaine Jack Germaine 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Mountain View | 2024 State AZ , Mountain View
6’1″ 180 lbs, 2,341 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Zero turnovers from Germaine last season tells you everything you need to know about him. He gets the ball out on time, makes the right reads, whether that’s reading the middle of the field on level route concepts, deep balls reading safeties, or even throwbacks to his tight end, Jack makes the right read and throw. Accurate with his throws, sits well in the pocket. He was also a sophomore last season. Now with another off season under his belt and being an upperclassman, expect more to come with him. With him manning the Toro offense along with recent BYU commit at tight end Jackson Bowers Jackson Bowers 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE Mountain View | 2023 State AZ , can’t wait to see what this offense brings this year.
Chris Arviso Chris Arviso 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Mountain Pointe | 2023 State AZ II, Mountain Pointe
6’2″ 170 lbs 3 star quarterback at Mountain Pointe is someone who I was interested in going into this year, but after rewatching his film and highlights, I am very interested in now. Talent jumps out to you right away. The ball zips out of his hands, the game seems to come naturally to him. Poised in the pocket, scrambles where and when he needs to, but he keeps his eyes down field and he rather throw it if he can. Averaged a touchdown per game last year, I expect that to go up with more opportunities to throw the ball in game. Very accurate with his ball placement, knows where to go with it before the snap of the ball, but also can decide of the fly if the blitz is coming. With a lot of receivers graduating, the weight is more on Arviso’s shoulders than ever before, but with his talent, I expect great things for him.
Brendan Anderson Brendan Anderson 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Mountain Ridge | 2023 State AZ , Mountain Ridge
6’1″ 185 lbs quarterback out of Mountain Ridge high school slings the football around night in and night out. Over 3,000 yards last season and 39 touchdowns, Anderson ran a high explosive team that scored points with over 40 a game. Anderson has a big arm and takes shots down the field often and it worked. Accurate with his deep balls, his three-step drop gives him more than enough time and space in the pocket to launch balls in his receiver’s arms perfectly. Running an explosive offense does come with some consequences. Would like to see the completion numbers go UP and the INT numbers go DOWN, and he might break 3,500 yards in 2022. He and Germain even faced off last season in the playoffs, and they only combined for 900 yards and 9 touchdowns. Anderson had a busy summer with college visits and the 7v7 circuit, he has already picked up offers and will continue to pick-up big-name schools this fall.
Drew Tapley Drew Tapley 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Desert Mountain | 2023 State AZ , Desert Mountain
6’3″ 195 lbs, Drew Tapley Drew Tapley 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Desert Mountain | 2023 State AZ has the size that you want as a quarterback. On tape it pops right away, his big strong demeanor in the pocket shows. Great arm to compliment his size, another great deep ball thrower. Outside the numbers or down the seam, Tapley puts the ball where it needs to be to be caught by his guys. 25 TDs to only 2 INTs, he also led the conference in quarterback rating. Runs a 4.87 forty-yard dash, so I would love to see him use that speed in the open field and show it off. Regardless, his poise in the pocket is tremendous and can make any throw on the football field that you ask of him to make. With a tough schedule ahead of them this year with matchups versus Cactus, Mountain View with Jack Germaine Jack Germaine 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Mountain View | 2024 State AZ , and Chaparral all within the first four weeks, it will be a test to see who they are early. Expect Tapley to have something to say about those games and how they turn out at the end.
If you are a fan of high school football and not sure who to go see this fall, make it a priority to see these four quarterbacks in action. With matchups against each other in the past that have lived up beyond expectations, expect the same this year when they face off against each other. And if they don’t see each other in the regular season, watch out for the post season, where these teams should all be later this year.
