On a beautiful Thursday night, we traveled to Central High and East Central High schools. This is the 80th Grady Skillern All City Football Preview hosted by Tulsa Public Schools. To begin the evening, we watched Hale, McLain, and Central at Central High School. After the game, we traveled to watch East Central which hosted Edison, Memorial, and Rogers. In this preview, we are going to take a look at a few players from a few teams to highlight as we near the 2022 football season. Friday night, Central beat Rogers for the All-City Championship. Central has won the last 3 out of 4 All City Championships with Edison winning one of those matchups.
Andrew Washington – 2024 – Rogers – Quarterback
It was interesting to watch Washington back at quarterback because the last 2 years we’ve seen Macuric Demry at the helm. Washington is the signal caller for the Ropers this season and did some pretty good things back in the backfield. Washington is quick to pull the ball down and take off when he feels the pressure. He distributed the ball well with what the Ropers wanted to do on offense. He had some passes he hit on target rolling out of the pocket downfield. It will be fun to watch him as the season progresses to watch him grow in this position.
Isaac Arce – 2024 – Rogers – Running Back
Arce was a running back that I watched a lot of throughout the night in both games he played. He was used as a multi-purpose back who could run inside and outside zone or catch the ball out of the backfield. He can be used in multiple ways in their offensive scheme. He is the kind of running back that is a slide and glide player who looks smooth back in the backfield. Arce made a few catches out of the backfield and has good vision out in the open field. He made some nice runs throughout the night and had a 10-yard touchdown to put the Ropers in the finals.
Bill Shaw – 2023 – Central – Wide Receiver
I first saw Shaw back in the spring in talking with Head Football Coach, Coach Shaw. After watching film I was blown away with his ball skills and how he would go after the ball in the air. He showed great body control in catching the ball Thursday and made several plays throughout the night. I look for Shaw to continue to make plays throughout the season and pick up more interest out at wide receiver. Shaw is an explosive play maker for the Braves and looks to lead the wide receiver unit this season.
Jamond Silas – 2023 – Central – Quarterback
Silas plays quarterback for the Braves and is a returning starter on offense. Silas moves well back in the pocket and once he feels the rush he tucks the ball and runs. Numerous times I thought he was sacked in the back field but found a way to squeeze through and made big plays out of it. Silas keeps his eyes down field and continuously finds open players. He has a nice touch on the ball and shows speed out in the open.
Kortland Lowe – 2024 – Hale – Running Back/Defensive End
Lowe is another player I was able to check out during the spring time for the Rangers. Lowe is a returning starter for the Rangers and looks to make big strides this season. He has lost 10 pounds this off season which brings him down to 193 pound running back. He took a toss outside for a 75 yard touchdown versus the Braves where he flashed his speed down the sideline. Not only does he have speed, but he is a physical runner between the tackles. Rare combination with running back and playing defensive end but Lowe showed he could do both. He likes mix it up and is quick off the ball.
Corey Rowland – 2024 – Edison – Wide Receiver/Safety
Rowland finds ways to make plays on both sides of the ball. Rowland has a good frame and can still add weight without slowing him down. He ended up making a spectacular catch coming from the other side of the field and laid out to make the catch. He made several plays on offense and defense in both his half games. He finds a way to get in position on the defensive side of the ball in his run fits and coverage. Rowland is not afraid to put his pads on the ball carrier and likes to play physical.
Taizhan Henry – 2024- McLain – Running Back
Another player we took a look at with “Under the Hood” feature with the McLain Titans is Harvey. This young man was fun to watch during All City. Last time we spoke about him being hungry and having to sit out last season but he has been working hard. He didn’t disappoint both days and had some great runs. Harvey has the ability to take one to the house every time he touches the ball. Harvey was the talk of the All- City with players, coaches and administration around. Harvey will be someone to keep an eye out for versus the Titans season opener versus Central week zero.
