Continue ReadingFour of Roman Catholic’s seven losses last Fall came by one score or less. Roman was beaten outright by some of the powerhouses in the PCL, yet you could easily see a change in record if things swing in a different direction early on in the year. Roman Catholic has one of the more loaded rosters you can find in the State, I am expecting a huge turnaround this Fall.
Top ten senior prospect, Penn State commit, and number one ranked defensive linemen Jameial Lyons Jameial Lyons 6’4″ | 245 lbs | DL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA will be dominating offensive lines for his final Fall season at Roman Catholic. I have seen firsthand just how athletic this kid is. The extra weight he has put on in preparation for PSU won’t hinder his ability to rush the passer. Lyons has made a living using his speed and athleticism to win reps. Now expect him to blend power into his pass rush. Expecting a dominant year from this kid.
Another elite talent in the trenches for Roman Catholic. Kentucky commit and top offensive linemen Austin Ramsey Austin Ramsey 6’7″ | 360 lbs | OL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA will act as the Jameial Lyons Jameial Lyons 6’4″ | 245 lbs | DL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA counterpart. Having two elite trench players like Lyons and Ramsey should serve as a more than solid foundation for the Roman coaching staff. Everyone’s jobs are made easier when you can trust to win reps at two crucial positions like OT and EDGE. Ramsey is out to prove he is worthy of any and every SEC offer that could come his way. Kentucky got a steal landing Ramsey. Here’s to a healthy season for the 6’6 big man.
Highlights
The athleticism amongst prospects at this program is ridiculous. Jordan Montgomery Jordan Montgomery 6’2″ | 220 lbs | LB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA , who is one of the state’s best defensive linemen left unsigned, can provide real reps at linebacker or even running back if the team needed it, not that the team does. Montgomery will flash real twitch and smooth lateral agility in the open field. Don’t get it twisted, the young man is natural on defense and could easily provide quality pass rush reps opposite of Jameial Lyons Jameial Lyons 6’4″ | 245 lbs | DL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA .
What a late offseason addition for Roman Catholic. Adding a legitimate top 10 senior DB to an already stacked DB room is overkill. Davis-Shabazz now acts as the top senior DB in a room that includes Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA , Mikey Preston Mikey Preston 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA and more. If you asked me what Philly program was most loaded in the secondary last month, I probably would have picked Roman. You can bet that now with the addition of ABW star Jaleel Davis-Shabazz Jaleel Davis-Shabazz 6’1″ | 185 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA .
Jamir Robertson Jamir Robertson 5’10” | 180 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA is yet another electric athlete that is capable of winning football games for the program on his own. Another top ten prospect amongst his position group that is still unsigned, Jamir Robertson Jamir Robertson 5’10” | 180 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA is the epitome of a homerun hitter on the field. We all remember just how special he was when at quarterback last Fall. I don’t expect him to see the same reps at QB, which might serve the team well. Robertson will more than likely be the offense’s play-maker, one that should take pressure off top prospect Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA .
Six prospects and I’m still speaking about how athletic these kids are. I recently spoke about finding Jason Patterson Jason Patterson 6’3″ | 230 lbs | LB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA the quarterback way back when he was at Bonner. Now, he’s joining an elite front seven on a program that squarely has their sights set on a state title. Patterson, a top 20 linebacker, will need to maximize his potential to help stop some of the running backs that tote the rock in the PCL.
More ammunition for whoever will be behind center for the Cahillites. Walt Clymer, formerly out of Eastern Regional HS in NJ, will now play his final year of ball alongside Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA and Jamir Robertson Jamir Robertson 5’10” | 180 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA . I am not in the know of what potential rep shares will look like, yet I can imagine the coaching staff could use a short/intermediate eater like Walt Clymer. By the way, here’s another athlete who has real quarterback reps under his belt.
Mao Howell Mao Howell RB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA will most likely serve as the starting running back at Roman this Fall. I fully expect this kid to start where he left off last Fall. The Roman Catholic offense will be chock full of athletes, if the passing game stalls for whatever reason, I would be comfortable handing the ball off a couple times to this twitchy athlete. The young man has some pass-catching capabilities too.
Brandon Mack Brandon Mack 5’10” | LB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA and Mekhi Watson Mekhi Watson 6’2″ | 205 lbs | TE Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA both serve as versatile role players who will have to maximize their roles if these team wants to make a deep playoff push. Mack and Watson are both similarly ranked. I know both can put out better film than they have thus far. There are a ton of mouths to feed, however. Look for both Mack and Watson to make impacts on each of their respective sides of the ball.0
The book on Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA , the high school prospect, has already been written many times over. There isn’t much left to say that hasn’t already been said. The 1st-team preseason All-State selectee serves as the best wideout in all of Pennsylvania, regardless of class. Expect this monster athlete to play both ways this year, tough to see a scenario where a talent like this is left on the sidelines at any point during a game.
Mikey Preston Mikey Preston 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA and Jonathan Ingram Jonathan Ingram 6’1″ | 175 lbs | QB Cheltenham | 2024 State PA both serve as top five players at their respective positions. Each prospect has been heavily recruited by FBS programs thus far. Mikey Preston Mikey Preston 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA ‘s skillset should fend off any underclassmen looking to earn a spot at corner. Some believe we have the young man too high on our ranks, I beg to differ and hope Preston does as well.
As for Jonathan Ingram Jonathan Ingram 6’1″ | 175 lbs | QB Cheltenham | 2024 State PA , there is real talent to be unlocked in this young man. There is real talent littered all over this roster that could sensibly play quarterback for Roman. Ingram will need to prove his worth every week and show that he can lead this team to where they need to be. I am positive he is capable of leading this team, it’s up to him to prove it.
Bowling Green and Boston College have expressed interest in Trey Woodley Trey Woodley 5’11” | 165 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA ‘s talents. Expect Trey to be a player in the passing game. Outside of Denmark, he might be one of the more natural and seasoned pass catchers that the roster can deploy. Call Woodley the chunk, big-play wideout of the offense. I could see him average 15-20 yards a catch with the vertical speed he displays.
Absolutely love the offseason work this young man has put in. I hope all the development and work on detail comes to light this Fall. Jah Jah Boyd has been a constant eye-opener every time I caught him this Spring/Summer. Boyd should eat at inside corner, he’s got the hips and foot quickness to keep up with many wideouts from an athletic perspective. He can make a name for himself if he can take a step forward in technique.
