The prospects featured in this article, I believe, are being undervalued from a recruiting perspective. Each kid has flashed a different type of skill set, but all have one thing in common: they’ve produced at the varsity level.
These prospects range from having a few FBS offers all the way to recruits who have yet to receive a single scholarship at any level. Regardless of whether they have an offer or not, each one of these guys, I believe, should be getting more attention on the recruiting trail. Their projected level may vary from person to person, but each one has talent that I believe deserves to be seen. With that being said, here’s who you need to know!
RB: Jobe Smith, 5’11″ 190, North County, MO
- Insane numbers, finishing with 2,907 total yards & 36 touchdowns.
- An explosive returner with outstanding vision.
- Violent cutting ability when changing direction.
- Muscles through contact with no fear.
LB: Phillip Mason, 6’1″ 220, Ridgeland, GA
- A crafty pass rusher who knows when to turn the gears up or down.
- Terrific closing speed.
- A fiery tackler who delivers punishing blows.
- Consistently makes tackles from the backside.
ATH: Jeremiah Ruffin, 5’10″ 165, Heritage, CA
- A talented two-way playmaker with a high football IQ.
- Outstanding ball skills.
- Excellent burst and build-up speed off the snap.
- Attacks the football at its highest point.
LB: Vincent Macaluso, 6’2″ 210, Upland, CA
- Deceptive in zone coverage.
- Has an uncanny ability to evade blocks at the first & second levels.
- Knee drive and raw power to force ball carriers to go backward.
- Sticky claws for hands as a tackler.
- Reads his keys, then triggers in an instant when need be.
RB: Messiah Burch, 5’10″ 175, Monsignor Farrell, NY
- Impressive burst and top-end speed.
- No wasted steps when changing direction, east and west.
- Has a nasty jump cut ready in his back pocket.
- Extremely slippery.
- Power-Five type ability.
WR: Nate Branch, 5’10″ 160, Lower Richland, SC
- Quick hands and feet work together on press releases.
- Easily rolls the neck when tracking the fade ball.
- Sudden hands when targeted.
- Plays fearless whether it’s catching the ball or making something happen after the catch.
ATH: Nic Townsend, 5’10″ 155, Pontotoc, MS
- Makes defenders look silly in the open.
- Has a vicious running style that can turn into finesse at any moment.
- High effort blocker at all times.
- Physicality that easily translates to either side of the ball.
