It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the McLoud Redskins. After a 3-7 2021 campaign and a new head coach coming in, the Redskins look to turn things around quickly.
McLoud Redskins
The McLoud Redskins will enter a new era this season as Coleman Ramsey takes over the McLoud football program. Ramsey took over as the head coach of the Redskins in early May and immediately went to work with spring ball and team camps coming up quickly after he was hired. He’ll look to turn the Redskins back into a playoff team after they struggled in 2021. McLoud would go 3-7 a season ago and miss out on the playoffs. They won their season opener and would then drop seven games in a row, including a couple games by single digits. McLoud would win their final two games of the regular season but they would be home for the postseason. Ramsey takes over at McLoud and it will be his first head coaching gig. He takes over a program that is coming off a 3-7 season but they still have some talented football players returning.
14 starters return in total for the Redskins as the enter the 2022 football season. Seven starters return on the offensive side of the ball and another seven starters are back on defense. Several of these starters that are returning will play both ways so building depth around those starters will be very important as we head into the season. The Redskins also find themselves in one of the tougher districts in Class 3A. Battling for a playoff spot is going to be tough every single week. It will be interesting to see if they have enough firepower to punch their ticket to the postseason for the second time in three seasons.

We’re on the record that McLoud has two 2023 prospects that have been incredibly underrated. We’ll start with 2023 running back and linebacker

. The first time we saw Campbell, we knew that he had the chance to be a pretty special prospect. First, we really liked him at the running back position. That’s where we saw him and he was constantly making plays. However, he’s also played some linebacker and the eyes have been opened to the possibilities of him playing on that side of the ball. Either way, Campbell is a next level talent and more schools need to be coming after the two-way star.

has been outstanding over the last two years. Similar to Campbell, we’ve seen Lewis as more of an offensive lineman over the last two years and that’s where we lean on him as a prospect. But he’s getting work in at defensive tackle and he has impressed on the defensive side of the ball as well. Just like with Campbell, we think that Lewis is a next level talent and he’ll have a chance to be one of the better offensive lineman prospects in Class 3A this season. We expect him to have a big senior year.
More Names To Know
Braden Osborne – 2023 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Caiden Mitchell – 2023 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Cole Kennedy – 2024 Running Back/Linebacker
Kaiden Cue – 2024 Athlete
Zak Osborn – 2023 Wide Receiver
2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Sept. 2 – Harrah
Sept. 9 – Bethel
Sept. 16 – AT Tecumseh
Sept. 23 – AT North Rock Creek
Sept. 30 – Anadarko
– McLoud will host Anadarko in week five and this is the one home game they’ll get during a five-week stretch where four of those five games are on the road. This will be a very important district clash for the Redskins, who have lost to the Warriors in each of the last two seasons in district play. McLoud has the potential to be a playoff team so getting a win here in week five is very important for that. We mentioned how tough the district is this year and there are five really good teams and only four playoff spots. The Redskins can’t afford to fall behind in the district standings.
Oct. 7 – AT Metro Christian
– A week after hosting Anadarko, the Redskins will hit the road and take on new district foe Metro Christian in Tulsa. The Patriots move up to Class 3A after winning two state championships in Class 2A in 2019 and 2020. The Redskins will definitely be tested here as they go up against Metro’s high-powered passing attack. This back to back stretch is going to tell us a lot about McLoud’s playoff chances. They have other key games against Kingfisher and Perkins-Tryon but fortunately for McLoud, both games will be at home.
Oct. 13 – AT Mannford
Oct. 21 – Kingfisher
Oct. 28 – Perkins-Tryon
Nov. 4 – AT Mount Saint Mary
Notable
McLoud is looking to not only make the playoffs this season but they’re looking to turn around their playoff struggles. In the last six trips to the postseason, the Redskins have been bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. 2006 was the last time they won a playoff game and advanced to the quarterfinals that year. In fact, this has been a program that hasn’t had much playoff success in general. That 2006 first round win was just the second playoff win in school history. The Redskins will have an uphill battle with the district that they’re in as the battle for the four playoff spots will be intense every week. But if they can make it to the postseason, they’ll definitely want to make plenty of noise.
