It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the two-time defending champions in 3A with the Holland Hall Dutch.
Holland Hall Dutch (3A Preseason Ranking: #7)
Holland Hall comes into this season after winning the last two state championships in Class 3A. They absolutely dominated their way thru the 2020 season with an undefeated record. Last year, they definitely faced more adversity but still found a way to make it back to Edmond and raise a gold ball. The Dutch come into this season as the two-time defending champions but they’ll be chasing other teams in Class 3A after graduation hit Holland Hall hard. Because of that, the Dutch come in at #7 in the Class 3A preseason rankings but this is still a team to watch in Class 3A. Head coach Tag Gross is one of the best in the business so despite not having many starters back, we think that they’ll once again be in the mix in Class 3A.
The Dutch don’t lose everyone off last year’s championship team. They do have some strong players coming back, especially on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, they’ll look very different with just three starters returning and just about every skill player gone from last year. Flip to the defense and you have six starters back on that side of the ball. The defense has some really good players coming back and the Dutch are going to lean on that side of the ball as the offense comes along. Look for Holland Hall to definitely go thru some growing pains early on. The first five games on their schedule are absolutely brutal. It’s hard to predict how the Dutch will look after the halfway point but they should finish the regular season strong and roll into the playoffs.

. We went from not knowing much about Jenney to thinking he was one of the best linebackers in the state’s 2023 class in about five weeks of football. Jenney is an absolute wrecking ball of a linebacker and just knows where to be on the field at all times. The Dutch are going to have some new faces on the defensive side of the ball but the fact that they return Jenney to roam around and play linebacker gives us confidence that their defense will be just fine. We think that Jenney will be one of the top linebackers in the state once again and we’re very interested to see what his production this year ends up being.

2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 26 – Lincoln Christian
– What a great season opener for both teams as Holland Hall welcomes in Lincoln Christian in week zero. This is a rematch of the last two state championship games in 3A and a battle between the two teams who have won every 3A title since 2019. Lincoln Christian will definitely be ready to go and won’t need any bulletin board material for this one after falling short to the Dutch in the last two state championship games. Lincoln also brings back just about everyone and are ranked #1 in the 3A preseason rankings. This will be a great gauge of each team early on in the season.
Sept. 2 – Will Rogers
Sept. 9 – AT All Saints Episcopal, TX.
Sept. 23 – AT Cascia Hall
– The Dutch won’t be easing into the district schedule after having week three off. They’ll open up district play against Tulsa rival Cascia Hall for a district match-up version of the “Hall Brawl”. These two programs have faced off in non-district play in the rivalry game for years. Now, with Cascia Hall moving up to Class 3A, this becomes a district game and one exciting district opener. The Dutch have been successful against Cascia recently. They’ve won the last three in the match-up, including two consecutive blowout wins.
Sept. 30 – Verdigris
– Things don’t get any easier after the rivalry clash with Cascia Hall as the Dutch will return home to face off with Verdigris. The Cardinals stunned the Dutch late in the regular season a year ago. Holland Hall was able to get the last laugh when they met again in the semifinals and the Dutch handled business, on their way to another state championship. But this year, the Cardinals are determined to take that crown from the Dutch with nearly everyone back. For Holland Hall, if they get out of this match-up 2-0 in district play, they’ll be in the driver’s seat for the district crown.
Oct. 7 – AT Dewey
Oct. 13 – AT Central
Oct. 21 – Inola
Oct. 28 – Bristow
Nov. 4 – AT Jay
Notable
After years and years of being a non-OSSAA member school, Holland Hall finally joined the state’s association in 2016 and five years later, they were raising the gold ball in Edmond. In fact, they started out in Class 2A and after a few seasons, they moved up to Class 3A in 2020. The Dutch are looking to make their third consecutive state championship game in their third season in Class 3A. While the Dutch will have their work cut out for them this fall, don’t overlook them potentially making a trip back to Edmond. They’ve had plenty of success since moving up to Class 3A. And in fact, they’ve had a lot of success since leaving the Southwest Prep Conference. Following them out of the Texas-heavy SPC and into the OSSAA in 2023 is Casady out of Oklahoma City.
