Snowden is outstanding in press-man-to-man coverage. You have to love his ability to turn and run with any receiver he covers. Snowden has the recovery speed to catch up to receivers when they have a space on him. He has good footwork and does not have a lot of wasted movement in his play. Snowden shows good hip fluidity and it helps him to turn and run with receivers. Snowden has good hands and comes down with nearly every ball thrown his way. With this being said, Snowden will come in as the best coverage defensive back in 2023.
Best Instincts- Devon Buskin Devon Buskin 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Southfield | 2023 State MI | Hudl
Buskin is very quick to recognize where run plays are going. He has no problem reading and seeing end-around develop and flying up and making a tackle. Buskin comes up to make tackles very aggressively and has no problem delivering a big hit. Buskin does a great job of identifying pass plays and communicating with his teammates, telling them who they need to cover. Buskin’s knowledge of coverage and football intelligence help to give him some of the best instincts you will see in a high school player. He is a true leader on the defense for South Field A & T.
Most Versatile- Jameel Croft Jameel Croft 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB Detroit King | 2023 State MI | Hudl
Croft has the ability to play safety and corner. He has outstanding hip fluidity and has no problem turning and running with receivers. Croft has a terrific change of direction and can easily put his foot in the ground and work back to the football. He can play press man-to-man on the outside at the cornerback position and can also drop into zone coverage at the safety position. Croft is not shy about delivering big hits on opposing receivers who come into his area. I am a big fan of his game overall and love that he can play anywhere in the secondary.
Best Open-Field Tackler- Mychal Yharbrough Mychal Yharbrough 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Belleville | 2023 State MI | Hudl
Yharbrough rarely misses open-field tackles. He is so good at reading where the run play is going and then using his speed to come down at the proper angle to make a tackle. Yharbrough does a great job of breaking down and making a fundamentally sound tackle. I love how he will wrap up to ensure the ball carrier does not escape. Having a guy who secures tackles in the secondary is crucial. Yharbrough’s ability to tackle has saved his team from giving up big play touchdowns.
He not only tackles well he is great in coverage. Yharbrough does a good job of getting in the proper position to make plays on the football. He has good hands and will come down with nearly every interception. Yharbrough does a great job of blocking on the kick return team as well. I love guys who are willing to make plays on the special teams as well. This really says a lot about a player and how good of a teammate they are. Mychal Yharbrough Mychal Yharbrough 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Belleville | 2023 State MI comes in as my top tackler out of the defensive backs in the 2023 class.
