It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Cashion Wildcats. They’re coming off two straight state championships but graduation has hit Cashion hard so this year’s team will look a little different.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Cashion Wildcats (A Preseason Ranking: #3)</strong></span>
Cashion has gone into several seasons in a row as the team to beat in Class A but with just five starters back on offense and another four starters back on defense, it’s a little different this summer. Despite having to replace the majority of their starters, Cashion is still a top five team and they do come into this season as the two-time defending state champions in Class A. Just because we’re not putting a target on them with the #1 ranking, doesn’t mean there isn’t a massive target on them as two-time champions. We think that the Wildcats are still the favorite to win their district and will once again be in the mix when the playoffs come around. The non-district schedule is incredibly tough but it will prepare Cashion’s new starters for what to expect when November rolls around.
On offense, the Wildcats return five starters and the biggest question mark will be surrounding the skill positions. The Wildcats will have to replace a three-year starter at quarterback as well as their running back and top two wide receivers. The Wildcats have been one of the top Class A programs for a decade now so it’s easy to just assume that they’ll be reloading and ready for another run this fall. While we’re giving them the benefit of the doubt, it’s definitely not going to be a smooth road back to Edmond for the two-time champs. We expect Cashion to contend once again this fall but a big storyline this year will be seeing how some of these new faces get prepared for another run in Class A.

<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Players To Watch</span></strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="375968" first="Chance" last="Acord"] - 2024 Quarterback</strong>
It’s hard to not include who’s going to be next under center for Cashion. This is a program that has had a long line of successful quarterbacks and it appears that 2024 QB [player_tooltip player_id="375968" first="Chance" last="Acord"] will be the next man up. Accord will be stepping into rather big shoes as he attempts to replace Ben Harman, who was a three-year starter and helped lead the Wildcats to their back to back state championships. However, similar to a few other programs around the state, we typically don’t question who’s going to be under center for Cashion and assume a breakout season is on the way.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="189936" first="Jackson" last="Vandruff"] - 2023 Defensive Lineman</strong>
The standouts from last year’s state championship team weren’t all seniors. They had some younger prospects playing big roles and one of the biggest returning starters from last year’s team is 2023 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="189936" first="Jackson" last="Vandruff"]. He’ll also see time on the offensive side of the ball but we believe that his best value as a prospect is on the defensive line. Vandruff is already on our radar as a prospect and he has a great chance to go to the next level to play college ball. Vandruff will be looked at as a leader on a defense that is breaking in new starters every where. We think he’s ready for the challenge.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="375967" first="Max" last="Brown"] - 2023 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back</strong>
With Cashion having a new quarterback this fall, the biggest help to bringing him along will be steady play from the receivers. Well, we’re looking at 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="375967" first="Max" last="Brown"] to be one of the top targets for Acord this fall. But similar to the quarterback situation, Brown is stepping into a huge role that has been dominated by guys like Landon LaGasse and Mason Manning. LaGasse had a huge senior year and Manning dominated in the state championship game. But if we’re going to assume that Acord will enjoy a breakout season, it would make sense that one of his receivers will have a big year as well and we’re going with Brown.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>More Names To Know</strong></span>
Barrick Wano - 2026 Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id="284879" first="Ethan" last="Waswo"] - 2026 Quarterback/Linebacker
Kaleb Duran - 2025 Linebacker

<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>2022 Schedule/Games To Circle</strong></span>
<strong>Aug. 26 - Rejoice Christian</strong>
- The only blemish on Cashion’s record last season was when they went on the road to Owasso to open the season and fell to Rejoice Christian. They’ll try to repay the favor as they host Rejoice to open up the 2022 campaign this year. Cashion will have their work cut out for them in the first two weeks, especially on defense as they’ll be facing two of the best quarterbacks in the state’s 2023 class. Rejoice Christian comes in as one of the top teams in Class 2A, led by QB [player_tooltip player_id="157515" first="Chance" last="Wilson"]. Cashion’s defense will have to grow up in a hurry as they try to slow down a Rejoice offense that has the potential to average 50 points per game this fall.
<strong>Sept. 2 - AT Pawhuska</strong>
- Shout out to the coaches here for agreeing to this non-district clash. Cashion and Pawhuska have played two of the better Class A playoff games over the last two seasons. You can make the argument that their semifinal match-ups in 2020 and 2021 were somewhat defacto championship games as they were the two best teams in the class. Now that Pawhuska has moved up to Class 2A, they’re no longer a threat to the Wildcats from going after a third consecutive state championship. But Cashion’s defense will once again be stressed during this road test. Similar to Wilson, Pawhuska’s [player_tooltip player_id="157511" first="Todd" last="Drummond"] is one of the top QB’s in the state’s 2023 class.
Sept. 9 - AT Thomas
Sept. 23 - AT Minco
Sept. 30 - Western Heights
Oct. 7 - Watonga
<strong>Oct. 14 - AT Christian Heritage</strong>
- After a pair of home games, the Wildcats go back on the road for arguably their toughest district test as they travel to Del City to face Christian Heritage. The Crusaders are dropping down to Class A after being in 2A and they immediately become a team to watch out for. They bring back the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball so this will certainly be a challenge for the Wildcats. Cashion has been absolutely dominant against district foes over the last few years but with plenty of new faces in the lineup and facing a very experienced Christian Heritage team, this will not be another easy district win. It won’t surprise us at all if the district title is decided here.
Oct. 20 - AT Stillwater JV
Oct. 28 - AT Hinton
Nov. 4 - Crescent

<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Notable</strong></span>
Here’s an interesting note about Cashion. It doesn’t have much to do with on the field but we find it interesting and thus, fits under "Notable". Two years ago, Cashion made history as the first team to ever go 16-0 in state history because of the extra playoff game during Covid. All records are meant to be broken but we have a feeling with the smaller classes splitting and going from five playoff games to four, we may never see another team play 16 games again. Two years after playing 16 games, Cashion was in the smallest district in the state with just five other teams. So the Wildcats have had to scramble to fill out the rest of their schedule. They’ll play five non-district games and five district games this season. And as we mentioned above, that non-district schedule is no joke.
