It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Bixby Spartans. One of the best teams over the last decade is moving up to 6A-1 after dominating 6A-2 since it’s inception.
Beggs Golden Demons (2A Preseason Ranking: #2)
The Beggs Golden Demons have been one of the more dominant teams in Class 2A since dropping down to 2A when Class 3A went back to having 32 teams. The Golden Demons are once again going to be in the mix in Class 2A this season after coming into this season as the #2 team in the preseason rankings. Last year, the Golden Demons were #3 in the preseason rankings and would go on to make it all the way to the semifinals. They have high expectations coming into this season but they won’t be satisfied with another semifinal appearance. They want to get back into the championship game and capture their first state championship since 1975. Not only do the Golden Demons have half of their starters returning, but they have multiple players throughout their roster that will end up playing D1 football.
Five starters return on the offensive side of the ball while Beggs also returns six starters on defense. The Golden Demons have had a fantastic stretch of seasons here recently and it’s pretty easy to see why. They’ve had some of the top prospects in the state. It began with Kendal Daniels in the 2021 class. It’s possible that the Golden Demons will have at least five consecutive classes where they have at least one top ten prospect in the state’s class. Something is in the water in Beggs right now and they are producing some of the state’s best talent year after year. It’s becoming a must-stop for colleges wanting elite talent. But when it comes to the team, Beggs is hoping that talent translates to contending for a state championship this fall.

. The incredibly disruptive defensive tackle was one of the absolute best at his position in the state last fall. Jordan earned All State 1st Team honors after dominating every time he stepped on the field. Jordan is a dominating force at the defensive tackle position. While he might not have the same size as prototypical defensive tackles, he does have the production of one. He uses a unique blend of size and quickness to frustrate and cause problems for opposing offensive linemen. Look for Jordan to have a big impact again this fall.

– 2023 Offensive Lineman
Beggs had arguably the best rushing attack in the state last season and it’ll once again be one of the top rushing attacks this fall. When it comes to production on the field, it’s hard to argue anyone other than Beggs and while they have legitimate stars running the ball, the running game is also boosted by 2023 offensive lineman

up front, anchoring the offensive line. Stanton has been on the radar for a while now and he goes into his senior year this fall looking to help pave the way for Beggs’ rushing attack and help lead them to a state championship. Stanton is another solid college prospect to look out for.

. Despite sharing the backfield with OSU signee CJ Brown, Martel still got in and made a significant impact running the ball. Martel is one of the best running backs in the state and top overall prospects in the state’s 2024 class. Martel is a big strong back that also has home run potential. We checked him out a few times this offseason and it’s impressive to see his physical transformation over the last six months. He’s kept his strength but also added legitimate speed and quickness. He has the potential to be a 2,000 yard rusher this fall.

was the third part of the three-headed monster at running back. Despite being the third guy up, Grayson still finished with over 800 yards as a freshman and showed moments of being absolutely electric at the running back position. However, we think that his brightest future might be as a cornerback moving forward. And it’s pretty easy to see why after watching him as a freshman. Grayson finished with nearly ten interceptions and was a lockdown corner for the Golden Demons. Grayson will still spend some time on offense again this fall but he’s got the potential to be a superstar on defense.

2022 Schedule/Games To Circle
Sept. 2 – AT Hugo
Sept. 9 – AT Rejoice Christian
– Get ready for points! These two Class 2A powers come into this season as top five teams and this has the potential to be a preview of a playoff meeting that you see deep into November and December. Last year, they played an absolute shootout and Beggs was able to run up and down the field in a 74-48 victory over the Eagles. Now they’ll travel north to Owasso to face a Rejoice team that will be ready to get a little revenge for the 74 points they gave up and the million (exaggeration) rushing yards they allowed. Beggs will be tested by a Rejoice offense that has one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state.
Sept. 16 – Verdigris
– One week after going on the road to take on Rejoice Christian in a 2A top five showdown, they face another top five team. This time, it’s week three against 3A’s #2 Verdigris. They’ll go from facing one explosive offense in Rejoice to facing one of the more experienced teams in the state. That’s the thing that is so special about Verdigris. Not only do they bring 18 starters back, but there are some of those starters that will be three and four year starters for the Cardinals. This will also be the last challenge before Beggs enters a district that they should be relatively dominant in when it comes to the big picture in Class 2A.
Sept. 23 – Westville
Sept. 30 – Victory Christian
– It’s the last day of September and only the halfway mark of the 2022 regular season but the district championship could be on the line here as Beggs hosts Victory Christian. These two teams squared off in a fantastic district showdown last season with Victory Christian coming out on top in the final week of the regular season. The Golden Demons haven’t forgotten about that blemish on their 2021 record and will be looking to avenge that loss in week five. There’s also some added heat on this match-up as former Victory Christian head coach Ben Palmer, who led the Conquerors to that 2021 win, is now on the staff at Beggs.
Oct. 7 – AT Kansas
Oct. 13 – AT Okmulgee
Oct. 21 – Kiefer
Oct. 28 – AT Morris
Nov. 3 – Sperry
Notable
It has to be suggested that this could be the golden era for the Golden Demons’ football program. They are in the middle of a run that has never been duplicated in school history. Beggs has made it to five consecutive semifinals, with the first two trips in 2017 and 2018 resulting in championship game appearances. However, they have Washington on their minds as the Warriors have ended their season in the semifinals in the last two seasons. Washington and Beggs are #1 and #2 in our preseason rankings in Class 2A. If they meet again in the playoffs, a state championship might be on the line. Both teams are incredibly hungry to finish the job and raise the trophy over their heads in Edmond.
