The biggest passing tournament in Southern California each summer is the Battle at the Beach tournament at Edison High. Last season, Santa Margarita won the tournament and the past two seasons it conflicted with the Elite 11, so some of the top quarterbacks could not participate. This season, the field is stacked as usual and all the top quarterbacks are expected to be in attendance. Here is a preview of the first half of teams at the tournament: Chaparral Chaparral has a promising sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="270900" first="Dash" last="Beierly"] who threw 9 touchdowns and four interceptions as a freshman last season. He will compete with and likely backup [player_tooltip player_id="25455" first="Caron" last="Tyler"] who has an offer from Graceland University. [player_tooltip player_id="25457" first="Raymond" last="Valencia"] is a lengthy two-way player for the Pumas and Jake Whitehead could be a big receiver target this season. https://twitter.com/DashBeierly/status/1537524222448132096?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw St. John Bosco It’s been said numerous times but the strength of St. John Bosco is its secondary. [player_tooltip player_id="115432" first="Marcelles" last="Williams"], [player_tooltip player_id="25395" first="RJ" last="Jones"], [player_tooltip player_id="25380" first="Jshawn" last="Frausto-Ramos"], [player_tooltip player_id="145132" first="Ty" last="Lee"], [player_tooltip player_id="115428" first="Khristian" last="Dunbar-Hawkins"], [player_tooltip player_id="115433" first="Peyton" last="Woodyard"] and [player_tooltip player_id="145239" first="Hunter" last="Nowell"] are all college prospects. [player_tooltip player_id="145191" first="Deven" last="Bryant"] is a quality linebacker and the top 2024 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="115443" first="Kyngstonn" last="Viliamu-Asa"] returns at linebacker. [player_tooltip player_id="25367" first="Pierce" last="Clarkson"] is the quarterback with [player_tooltip player_id="25410" first="Jahlil" last="McClain"] and [player_tooltip player_id="190270" first="DeAndre" last="Moore"] as the top two receivers. https://twitter.com/Ty5_Lee/status/1543698641692397568?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw Bishop Amat [player_tooltip player_id="240019" first="Hunter" last="Watson"] will be the quarterback for Bishop Amat with some weapons to throw to like [player_tooltip player_id="25439" first="Dominic" last="Bryant Rubio"] and the "slot machine" [player_tooltip player_id="145208" first="Delano" last="Franklin"]. Dylan Rodriguez is a quality linebacker for Amat and safety [player_tooltip player_id="145213" first="Corey" last="Johnson"] was recently named to the Elite 11 All-Tournament team. https://twitter.com/DelanoLee23/status/1543724496720637952?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw JSerra JSerra is one of the mystery teams of the tournament. They lost some of their top players from last season. Zander Singh is expected to be the quarterback for the Lions and lacrosse star Jared Referente returns. Cathedral Catholic Cathedral Catholic is the defending San Diego Division 1 champion. They have two good returning defensive stars in San Diego State commit [player_tooltip player_id="145169" first="Marcus" last="Ratcliffe"] and [player_tooltip player_id="145201" first="Victory" last="Johnson"]. Max Bayles is an intriguing returning receiver for the Dons and [player_tooltip player_id="282705" first="Madden" last="Faraimo"] is one of the top class of 2025 players in San Diego. Jack Stevens is a junior quarterback who transferred from Nevada with an offer from North Texas. https://twitter.com/Jack_Stevens18/status/1522273001739194368?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw Mater Dei Mater Dei is loaded with talent as always and is led by star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="147708" first="Elijah" last="Brown"]. [player_tooltip player_id="115462" first="Ajon" last="Bryant"] and [player_tooltip player_id="282698" first="Jordon" last="Davison"] are two great young running backs and Texas commit [player_tooltip player_id="145241" first="Spencer" last="Shannon"] is a big tight end target. Sophomores [player_tooltip player_id="282734" first="Chuck" last="McDonald III"] and [player_tooltip player_id="282700" first="Daryus" last="Dixson"] lead the secondary along with [player_tooltip player_id="147715" first="Zabien" last="Brown"]. [player_tooltip player_id="25447" first="Levi" last="Sua"] is one of the biggest and best linebackers in the state for the Monarchs. https://twitter.com/GregBiggins/status/1543306120496021504?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw Capo Valley [player_tooltip player_id="261786" first="Trey" last="Kukuk"] is a talented returning quarterback for the Cougars but Dan Albano of the OC Register just reported that his top target [player_tooltip player_id="45038" first="Dane" last="Benedix"] will miss the event with a knee injury. Cash Moormann is a solid junior athlete for the Cougars and [player_tooltip player_id="147764" first="Jackson" last="Sievers"] is a quick young linebacker. https://twitter.com/ocvarsity/status/1451993872465219585?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw Corona del Mar The Sea Kings won their own passing tournament two weeks ago and scored on every possession. [player_tooltip player_id="145236" first="David" last="Rasor"] has one of the better arms in the county and Kaleb Annett is a promising backup who would start a lot of schools. Cooper Hoch is a true No. 1 receiver and was just named All-Tournament at the Elite 11. https://twitter.com/cooper_hoch/status/1540578700051107841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1540578700051107841%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F07%2Felite-11-all-tournament-offensive-team%2F https://twitter.com/cooper_hoch/status/1540578700051107841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1540578700051107841%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fprepredzone.com%2F2022%2F07%2Felite-11-all-tournament-offensive-team%2F Los Alamitos The Griffins have two of the top players in the state in USC commits [player_tooltip player_id="25419" first="Malachi" last="Nelson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="25398" first="Makai" last="Lemon"]. [player_tooltip player_id="145170" first="Ethan" last="O’Connor"] and [player_tooltip player_id="145234" first="Gavin" last="Porch"] are quality targets as well and [player_tooltip player_id="145202" first="Nehemiah" last="Sagiao"] is a speedy linebacker. Lincoln Lincoln has two of San Diego’s best linebackers in [player_tooltip player_id="25377" first="Chris" last="Fewell"] and [player_tooltip player_id="25424" first="David" last="Peevy"]. [player_tooltip player_id="261717" first="Josiah" last="Cox"] and Corey Thompson Miller are good athletes and Shawn Pomatto is a transfer from St. Augustine and a candidate to start at quarterback. Johnny Limon is the likely starter at quarterback after transferring from Eastlake. [player_tooltip player_id="145173" first="Roderick" last="Robinson II"] is the running back and my personal favorite back in San Diego and one of my favorites in the state. https://twitter.com/UTRScouting/status/1506053884271243264?s=20&t=ib2PeHVXOpjHZBcNObKYMw
