This past Saturday I was invited to attend the Iowa Western Reivers Individuals Camp to evaluate the talent in attendance. The day was split into two halves; the first was Hogs and Dogs featuring the offensive and defensive linemen and the second part was the Skills positions. Both groups were relatively small in number but did not lack in talent in the slightest. The Hogs and Dogs was a very appropriate title as one on ones and King of the Hill battles brought out the best in each competitor. My OL MVP went to Omaha Westside’s [player_tooltip player_id="245886" first="Payton" last="McDonald"]. Payton is a very coachable player with great fundamentals. He does a great job getting his hands inside and packs plenty of strength. East Buchanan’s Ethan Bailey was an absolute beast on Saturday. Bailey is my DL MVP after claiming the title of "last man standing" during the one-on-one competitions. The skills position was the second part of the camp and it featured lots of big-time talent. Lewis Central QB [player_tooltip player_id="245908" first="Braylon" last="Kammrad"] is a polished QB that looks even more confident, poised. and focused after leading his team to a state championship. He has a quick, smooth release and can add tons of zip on the ball. His arm talents earned my vote for QB MVP. Braylon’s Lewis Central teammate [player_tooltip player_id="104113" first="Jonathan" last="Humpal"] wanted to match his MVP performance with one of his own. Humpal’s athleticism and ability as both a running and receiving threat have turned him into one of the best burners in the state of Iowa. He was giving linebackers fits in one-on-one drills. Bellevue West WR [player_tooltip player_id="180286" first="Kyrell" last="Jordan"] sprinted away with the WR MVP. Jordan continued to turn heads with his blazing speed and elite hands. Kyrell’s ability to operate out of the slot and outside receiver spot makes him even more dangerous and troublesome for defenses. East Buchanan LB Rylee Parker was my choice for LB MVP. He is a fluid athlete that can flip his hips smoothly and has great ball skills in coverage. Bellevue West DB [player_tooltip player_id="330252" first="Donnovan" last="Whitfield"] is going to be a problem in 2022. What stood out about Donnovan was his length and how much he thrives off of being physical. He is a taller safety that can square up very well against tall receivers in tight ends.
