We are glad to welcome in new additions to our 2023 Prep Redzone Pennsylvania Rankings this weekend. Our "New Additions" piece will highlight some of the new names that have been introduced to the rankings. Over 200+ new names have been discovered throughout my travels, that including camps and showcases, team practices, 7v7 tournaments as well as word of mouth from coaches around the state. Below are just some of the need Quarterbacks on our recent update. We hope to see each climb our rankings in the future.
<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="120465" first="Brett" last="Nye"] | 6’2, 210 | Shamokin Area </strong></span></em>
It is well known just how fond of [player_tooltip player_id="120465" first="Brett" last="Nye"]’s game we are here at Prep Redzone. We can finally reflect that with our latest ranking update releasing, having Nye debut as a top-200 prospect in his class. Not too many prospects debut this high, Nye being one of the more deserving prospects to make this leap. Nye’s tape alone nets him an FCS-grade out of me, yet the Shamokin soon-to-be-senior has solidified this grade with what has been an outstanding off-season so far. We hope the young man continues to build traction in recruiting.

<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="358333" first="Zakii" last="Curry-Lewis"] | 6’1, 185 | Harrisburg</strong></span></em>
A player whose initial ranking is modest, yet long overdue. Most of the prospects included in this list are young men who have worked their tails off this off-season to make sure their name is known amongst local collegiate circles. [player_tooltip player_id="281288" first="Zakii" last="Lewis"] fits that mold. Lewis’ tape showed what he is capable off with both his arm and legs, this offseason is proving to many just how hard he is willing to work to improve and develop his game. He earned this. More to come as we will keep a watchful eye on this young man moving forward.

<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="342514" first="Darmel" last="Lopez"] | 5’10, 160 | Executive Education</strong></span></em>
First time I heard of this young man was when I saw his name pop up on the attendee list for our camp this past May. Executive Ed prospects do not get enough attention on our site, or in the state for that matter. Lopez’s performance in the camp was good enough to garner a look at his tape. His production wowed me. 1500+ yards through the air, 18 touchdowns with just under 300 yards on the ground. Lopez has areas to work on, as does every quarterback on our rankings, yet this kid’s athleticism from the pocket is undeniable.

<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="358078" first="Antwon" last="Johnson"] | 6’2, 190 | Central Valley</strong></span></em>
Not sure how it took this long to get this kid on our rankings. Yes, Central Valley’s success comes in large part to their dynamic Albany-bound running back Landon Alexander as well as the program’s prowess on defense led by Sean FitzSimmons. Let’s begin to shed some light on the CV prospect behind center. Big-bodied passer who plays bigger than his measurables suggest. The young man allotted 6 total touchdowns on the ground while accumulating just under 200 rushing yards this past Fall. This on top of 1200+ passing yards with a 19/6 touchdown to interception ratio. We are intrigued to see what this upcoming Fall has in store for Johnson.
<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="305055" first="Eli" last="Warfel"] | 6’2, 175 | Penn Manor</strong></span></em>
Next, we have a 6’2, 180-pound quarterback out of Penn Manor who’s escapability and overall athleticism surprised me. Turning on the tape, you immediately see a prospect that is willing to test a defense vertically, while differing his throw speed to lead targets in stride downfield. Warfel’s tape displays on, as well as off, rhythm throws. What intrigues me is this kid’s potential to be special with his feet. He’s got a 50+ yard run off an RPO that he took to the house through the trenches. This kid could be on his way to dual-threat status.
<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="358402" first="Brett" last="Szarko"] | Central Bucks South</strong></span></em>
A look at some of the rocket throws out of this young man and you would think it was coming from a 6’4, 220-pound monster quarterback. No, it’s coming out of senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="358402" first="Brett" last="Szarko"] who doesn’t let his 5’10, 170-pound frame hold him back in producing for CBS. A lengthy, 11-minute tape shows that Szarko can work all areas of the field, as well as target downfield weapons with accuracy, often 35-40 yards downfield. Colleges will take notice so long as Szarko continues to this level of production this upcoming Fall.
<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="358295" first="Ethan" last="Dorrell"] | Cedar Cliff</strong></span></em>
Out of any quarterback on this list, I am most excited to see what [player_tooltip player_id="358295" first="Ethan" last="Dorrell"] has in store this Fall. I personally think the debut ranking is a modest one, as I foresee a future where this kid is a top-20 quarterback in his class. There’s emphasis in the beginning of his tape on being able to stay in the pocket, take a blow and still complete dimes all over the field, a trait I value when projecting HS athletes to the next level. Dorrell checks off so many boxes but has yet to gain traction amonst coaching staffs at the next level, whatever the reason may be. I am personally big on this kid becoming one of the bigger stock-risers in recruiting in November.

<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="287247" first="Michael" last="Reed"] | 6’1, 160 | Owen J. Roberts</strong></span></em>
I will have my eyes glued on [player_tooltip player_id="287247" first="Michael" last="Reed"]’s senior campaign. Reed has "hidden-gem" written all over him. He’s got a little of something from each of the kid’s above. The production is there, the measurables aren’t anything to laugh at, the kid has upside from a projection standpoint. He’s a worker who can do damage with his arm and legs. He’s a little bit of each prospect combined into one. A season where he can put everything together is all that is needed for the young man to hear calls from local coaches.

<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="358410" first="Ben" last="Moore"] | 6’3, 205 | McDowell</strong></span></em>
[player_tooltip player_id="358410" first="Ben" last="Moore"] is the biggest kid on this list, a prospect with a high-floor because of said size. We project Moore will be able to stand tall in collegiate pockets, while also being tough enough to handle hits from collegiate defenders. Moore and Dorrell are my picks to make the highest leap after each of their initial rankings. There is so much upside with a quarterback that can match his great measaurables with his ability to target weapons downfield. Can’t wait to watch more of him this Fall.
