The offseason in Oklahoma has finally come to an end, at least for the next few weeks. Schools across the state will open up spring practices on Monday and will continue next week with team camps and wrap up the following week. Prep Redzone Oklahoma will be out at team camps across the state starting next week. Be sure to check back in for plenty of team reports from those camps as we break down who’s standing out and who some of the new faces might be this fall. Later this week, we’ll also have a few more posts taking a look at some of the top storylines across Oklahoma high school football today and we’ll be checking in with the reigning state champs. In this post, it’s our way too early rankings for the 2022 season. In case you missed our way WAY too early rankings back in January, you can check them out RIGHT HERE. We have seen some changes in the various classes since that January post. Our official preseason rankings for the 2022 season will be dropping on July 1st. For now, let’s take an early look at the top teams in each class from 6A-A.
CLASS 6A-1
1) JENKS
– Defending 6A-1 champs are on top once again with some serious firepower returning on the offensive side of the ball.
2) BIXBY
– The Bixby dynasty is moving on up and they’re bringing a 49-game winning streak with them as they transition into 6A-1.
3) UNION
– Union had to settle for the silver ball in ’21 but the Redhawks are reloading in a big way on offense and will be tough to stop.
4) OWASSO
– The Rams have some names to replace, especially on the defensive side of the ball but can you ever overlook a Bill Blankenship-coached team?
5) MUSTANG
– There’s no doubt that Mustang is building something special and more importantly sustainable, but do they have enough to break through this year?
6) BROKEN ARROW
7) EDMOND SANTA FE
8) NORMAN NORTH
9) NORMAN
10) EDMOND MEMORIAL
CLASS 6A-2
1) BOOKER T WASHINGTON
– After having an outstanding defense last year, don’t be surprised if the Hornets feature one of the top offenses in 2022.
2) STILLWATER
– Stillwater’s new faces from 2021 are experienced and ready to lead the Pioneers back to contending for a state championship.
3) CHOCTAW
– The Yellowjackets have been knocking on the door over the last few seasons but it’s time for Choctaw to kick the door down this fall.
4) MUSKOGEE
– Head coach Travis Hill is building something special at Muskogee and with plenty of younger talent, the Roughers will be a contender for a while.
5) SAND SPRINGS
– The Sandites finished fourth in the district but still made it to the semifinals, Bobby Klinck has this program going in the right direction.
6) DEER CREEK
7) LAWTON
8) PUTNAM CITY NORTH
9) PONCA CITY
10) BARTLESVILLE
CLASS 5A
1) CARL ALBERT
– Carl Albert took a “step back” in 2021 and that included a run to the semifinals. We think the Titans take back their throne in 2022.
2) BISHOP McGUINNESS
– Similar to Carl Albert, district rival Bishop McGuinness is ready to step back into the spotlight this year and go after the gold ball.
3) McALESTER
– The Buffaloes fell short in the title game and have plenty of starters to replace but they do bring back last year’s Player Of The Year.
4) DEL CITY
– The Eagles drop down from 6A-2 and immediately become a contender in 5A after capturing a district championship a year ago.
5) NOBLE
– With some serious firepower returning on offense, we like Noble to be one of the top teams in 5A all season this fall.
6) GROVE
7) ARDMORE
8) COLLINSVILLE
9) COWETA
10) MIDWEST CITY
CLASS 4A
1) CUSHING
– With so much talent returning, combined with an early playoff loss, Cushing has to be hungry to make a deep run in 2022.
2) WAGONER
– Wagoner reloaded last year with young players that are ready to return to the Bulldogs to championship contenders this fall.
3) TUTTLE
– The Tigers had to settle for a silver ball in 2021 and that surely left a sour taste in their mouth this offseason. Tuttle will once again be one of the top teams.
4) POTEAU
– Speaking of perennial powers, the Poteau Pirates are once again going to be in the mix this fall as the favorite in their district.
5) CLINTON
– The defending champions have some big names to replace coming into this season and will also get everyone’s best shot each week.
6) HILLDALE
7) NEWCASTLE
8) BETHANY
9) BLANCHARD
10) FORT GIBSON
CLASS 3A
1) VERDIGRIS
– With nearly everyone back once again, the Cardinals are ready to take that final step and go after the state championship this fall.
2) HERITAGE HALL
– Once again, the Chargers have to be considered serious contenders as we go into the new season. They’ve proven they just reload, not rebuild.
3) LINCOLN CHRISTIAN
– Last year’s runner up will once again be in contention throughout the season but Lincoln Christian will have to replace their star quarterback.
4) HOLLAND HALL
– The two-time champs aren’t the favorites heading into this season with so many new faces but they are still a serious contender.
5) METRO CHRISTIAN
– Moving up from Class 2A, Metro Christian brings one of the most explosive offenses into Class 3A and will be lighting up scoreboards this season.
6) PLAINVIEW
7) CASCIA HALL
8) BERRYHILL
9) MARLOW
10) SEMINOLE
CLASS 2A
1) WASHINGTON
– The Warriors have had to settle for a silver ball two years in a row. They are our team to beat in Class 2A heading into this year.
2) BEGGS
– Beggs returns not only some serious talent but it’s young talent as well. Get used to seeing the Golden Demons as a contender.
3) REJOICE CHRISTIAN
– Rejoice Christian had one of the top offenses in the state last fall and with nearly everyone returning, they should be considered a top team.
4) VIAN
– Perennial powerhouse Vian is ready to not only return to the state championship game but go after that gold ball this season.
5) MILLWOOD
– The Falcons missed the playoffs for the first time in a long time in 2021. We expect a big bounce back year from Millwood this fall.
6) JONES
7) OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
8) PAWHUSKA
9) EUFAULA
10) BETHEL
CLASS A
1) GORE
– For the second straight year, Gore brings back nearly everyone and head coach Brandon Tyler is ready to take his alma mater all the way.
2) FAIRVIEW
– Fairview brings back almost all 22 starters and they will certainly be a team to watch with plenty of firepower on offense returning.
3) CASHION
– The two-time defending champs are once again back as contenders but they’ll have so many new starters that it will take some time.
4) RINGLING
– Ringling had to settle for the silver ball after heartbreak in the title game but head coach Phil Koons has this program as a perennial power once again.
5) HOMINY
– The Bucks had some young talent experience breakout seasons last year. We expect them to take the next step this fall.
6) POCOLA
7) WOODLAND
8) PAWNEE
9) HOOKER
10) MORRISON
