Montgomery County’s top DL to watch

Montgomery County has some very athletic edge rushers. These guys have the ability to both stuff the run and rush the passer. These are the best of the bunch. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="249078" first="Noah" last="Ferguson"] (2023) | 6’3 DE | Damascus</strong> Ferguson is a perfect defensive end. He does a great job of setting the edge and playing contain defense. He is a very stout run defender. He is able to make plays in the backfield as he has the ability to split double teams and get blockers off of him. He is also a solid pass rusher as he is very quick off the ball and can beat blockers around the edge. He also displays great hands and consistently wins hand fights. Ferguson is a top player, expect his offer list to grow. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="249389" first="Jaylen" last="Harvey"] (2024) | 6’2 DE | Quince Orchard</strong> Harvey is a perfect example of a modern-day edge rusher. He is very athletic as he has great speed and quickness. He uses this speed when chasing down quarterbacks and ball carriers. He uses his quickness when firing off the line of scrimmage. He also plays with a great pad level which allows him to dip under blocks and maneuver his way around blockers. He also has shown that he has multiple effective pass rush moves. Harvey is a power 5 talent and will likely rack up big numbers this season. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="263187" first="Xavier" last="Rivers"] (2024) | 6’2 DE | Northwest</strong> Rivers is a productive defensive end. His most impressive trait is his high motor. He plays with great effort and hunger which makes him a real handful to deal with. Rivers is a very good run defender as he does a great job of using his size and length to keep blockers from getting inside position. He also does a great job of fighting for inside position himself. He does a great job of shedding blocks and sometimes just moving blockers wherever he wants. He also has the skillset to play on the interior of the line if needed. Expect another productive year from Rivers. <strong>Jordan Kamara (2023) | 6’3 DE | Seneca Valley</strong> Kamara is probably the most underrated defensive player in the county. He is solid in both the run and pass game. As a run defender, he keeps himself free of blockers and does a great job of making stops on outside run plays. As a pass rusher, he does a great job of attacking the tackles’ outside shoulder. He wins a lot of his pass rush reps. He has moves to get by blockers. He also has the ability to go through blockers. He also is a good athlete which allows him to be a threat once he reaches the backfield. Kamara will look to put together another solid season. <strong>Oliver Jenkins (2023) | 6’2 DE | Blair</strong> Jenkins is another underrated edge prospect. He is a very intelligent player as he is quick to read and react. He quickly diagnoses plays and seems to put himself in the right spots. He is athletic enough to quickly get to the outside and stuff any outside run plays. He also uses his athleticism and quickness as a pass rusher to run by slower blockers. He also has quick hands as he is can get his hands on blockers before they get their hands on him. He also uses his size and length to keep blockers at bay. He is very quick to shed blocks and is a good tackler. If Jenkins can put up bigger numbers this season his recruitment could start to heat up. <strong>Elrenton Andrews (2023) | 6’0 DE | Paint Branch</strong> Andrews is a very powerful edge defender. He plays much bigger than his size due to his immense strength. He is willing to take on blockers as he can overpower them. He has shown that he has a good bull rush. He also uses his strength to shed blockers off of him. He is a very strong-run defender and does a great job of protecting the edge. He is also versatile enough to play as an interior defender. Andrews is a key player on a very strong Paint Branch defense.
