About Xavier
Expert Analysis
Corey Bailey | Prep Redzone Scout
Rivers is a player we’ve watch get better and better of these past few years and he’s yet to peak. At the next level he will be an edge rusher or outside linebacker but he was dominant all over the defensive line in 2022. He’s so fast off of the ball blockers standing right in front of him don’t even get a hand on him. He’s not just a speed freak, he’ll punch a blocker in the chest and fight through blocks and still have time to cause havoc in the backfield. If he can’t get to the QB for a sack, he may cause a turnover swatting at the ball or jumping into the passing lane. Rivers is looking really good, landing a few ivy league and FCS offers this off-season. He’s a hungry impressive prospect, you will see his name a few times this season, I’m sure.

Rivers is starting to heat up, and its well deserved. All in the month of March, Rivers landed 3 Ivy league offers from Yale, University of Penn, and Brown. With a GPA through the roof (4.5) and explosive abilities off the edge, this should be a very interesting season for Xavier. He’s showed dominance on the interior line as well as an edge rusher, that versatility will make him attractive to a lot more programs. Expect Rivers recruiting stock to continue to rise, we’ve been predicting an increase in his recruiting, now programs are starting to take notice.

Rivers is developing into a gem for Northwest. He’s physically dominant in the box, able to play any position in the front 7. He has good size at 6’2.5 and 230lbs but he’s still one of the most explosive players on the field at all times, he shoots out of a cannon at the snap of the ball. Rivers ended the season with 26 tackles for a loss, living in opponents’ backfields thus past season. Look for Rivers to draw a lot of attention as we get closer to the 2023-2024 season.

Rivers played a different role for Northwest this season. He played more on the interior than on the edge. He was an elite run stopper. He made plenty of runs stops at or behind the line of scrimmage. He does a good job of shooting through gaps. He is very quick off the ball. He has good body control and hands which allows him to avoid blocks.

Many expected Rivers to have a big breakout season. He’s off to a hot start. He had a very impressive game against a solid Damascus offensive line. He was explosive coming off the edge. He was able to live in the backfield and be very disruptive. He was able to finish off the plays in the backfield as he tackled very well and didn’t let ball carriers break free.

Rivers is a player that is expected to take a big jump this season. He is an edge that knows how to use his size. He does a great job of using his length. He is able to get his hands on blockers before they can engage their blocks. He also does a good job of getting inside position when he does get his hands on blockers. He is great at shedding blocks and getting himself free. He plays with great hustle and never gives up on the play. Rivers has a chance to have a big jump in production.
