As I have already covered quarterbacks and running backs, I will now turn my attention to some impressive pass catchers. With that being said, here a five wide receivers in the class of 2023 in Kentucky that I believe will make a lot of noise this season.
Nolan Davenport | 6’0″, 170 lbs.| Bullitt East High School| Junior Year Film
Davenport is a player that had a very productive junior season. He finished fourth in the entire state in receiving with 75 receptions for 1,061 yards, and 16 touchdowns. Davenport sees most of his time on the outside as he has the speed to pose as a dangerous deep threat. He is also a very impressive route runner and has tremendous ability after the catch due to his speed and elusiveness. In addition to being a great football player, Davenport is also a very successful basketball player. If he decides to choose football over basketball at the next level, Davenport should see some offers coming in as early as this summer.
Zack Claudio | 5’9″, 175 lbs.| Franklin County High School| Junior Year Film
Zack Claudio is a very dangerous slot receiver that was a key part of Franklin County’s offense last season. Claudio finished his junior year with 51 catches for 653 yards and five touchdowns. He stands out as a true hands catcher, showing the ability to look the ball in and secure the catch before making his next move. He showed off his hands with multiple highlight-worthy catches last season. Claudio has the speed to be a dangerous deep threat but also has the quick feet as a route runner to create separation anywhere on the field. He is very shifty after the catch with the ability to make defenders miss. He is also able to show off his speed and elusiveness as a ball carrier as he was used on jet sweeps at times as a junior. Claudio also plays a key role on defense as a defensive back.So far, Claudio has one offer from Wilmington College but I expect those offers to pile up if he is able to have a strong summer.
Khalil Rogers Khalil Rogers 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Owensboro | 2023 State KY | 5’10″, 160 lbs.| Owensboro High School| Junior Year Film
Rogers is a dynamic play maker that began to make a name for himself as a junior, catching 38 passes for 532 yards and scoring nine total touchdowns. He uses his speed to stretch the field as a true deep threat and run away from defenders with ease. Also uses that speed as a returner on special teams where he was very dangerous last season. Rogers is also a very smooth route runner with the ability to create separation. He also shows great hands and athleticism with his ability to go up and catch the ball at its highest point. He currently holds two offers from Morehead State and Indiana State, and I fully expect many other FCS, Division II, and other smaller schools to show a ton of interest in him with the possibility to get looks from even bigger programs if he continues to improve during his senior year.
Zackerrey Kelley | 6’0″, 180 lbs.| Great Crossing High School| Junior Year Film
Kelley is a dynamic outside receiver that is a key part of a newer, quickly improving Great Crossing football team. He had a solid season as a junior, finishing with 30 receptions, seven touchdowns, and 15 yards per reception. He has very reliable hands with a ton of pluck to them and the ability to make highlight one-handed catches look easy. Kelley is also an incredible athlete with a high catch radius, showing the ability to go up and grab jump balls He also shows impressive deep speed as a vertical threat. So far, Kelley has one Division II offer from Fairmont State but I believe that he will continue to grab the attention of college coaches as I think he could potentially play at the FCS level.
Chandler Godby | 5’9″, 170 lbs.| Pulaski County High School| Junior Year Film
Chandler Godby is coming off a tremendous junior season in which he finished 11th in the entire state in receiving, catching 75 passes for 1,061 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is a very reliable slot receiver, especially in the short and intermediate passing game. Godby has very reliable hands and shows the toughness to look the ball in and catch it in traffic without worrying about getting hit. After the catch, he shows the ability to pick up extra yards with the speed to run away from the defense along with the strength and elusiveness to break tackles. Godby doesn’t currently hold any offers but I can see those offers coming in if he is able to take advantage of the camp circuit this summer.
