There’s been many changes made since the January update for the Class of ’24. Especially at the top of the rankings. In this May update each player within the Top 5 now has a new rank. There is a new No. 1 ranked prospect, a newcomer made his debut all the way up to No. 2, and spots 3-5 had some shuffling around as well. More changes could come as these five prospects will be competing for the top ranked spot during the ’22 campaign. As always, don’t forget to view the rest of the changes made throughout the rankings.
No. 1: [player_tooltip player_id="146114" first="DaeOnte" last="Mitchell"] – Wichita East, 6’2”, 210, QB
[player_tooltip player_id="146114" first="DaeOnte" last="Mitchell"] now sits at the top of the class after holding down the No. 2 spot in the previous update. The Wichita East product has looked impressive during this offseason, competing in multiple 7-on-7 showcases with Wichita Wheat. Mitchell also got to put his skills to the test against D-I level talent at the Elite11 Regional Camp in Dallas, TX., during March. He’ll be poised for another big season as he prepares for year three as the starting quarterback for the Blue Aces.
No. 2: [player_tooltip player_id="335768" first="BJ" last="Canady"] – Topeka, 6’5”, 240, DL
Canady had the highest debut out of all the newcomers in this update, as he checks in at No. 2 in the rankings and is now the top ranked defensive lineman in the class. He made the transition from quarterback to the trenches this past fall, and this switch paid dividends for Canady, as he’d take home an All-League Honorable Mention nod. His play at defensive end has also earned him a 4-Star ranking from 247Sports, and he’s picked up offers from multiple D-I programs.
No. 3: [player_tooltip player_id="145515" first="Hudson" last="Ferralez"] – Hesston, 6’1”, 175, QB
Ferralez slides a few spots in this update, but he still remains one of the top prospects in the class. The 2nd ranked signal caller has carried over his success from the ’21 campaign into the spring. Ferralez’s accuracy has been on full display during the 7-on-7 season. He was a part of the Kansas Elite 18U team that took home 1st Place at the KC Varsity Combines 7-on-7 Tournament in April. Ferralez may be from a small-town, but he has a big-time arm, and recruiters need to keep an eye on him this fall.
No. 4: [player_tooltip player_id="146106" first="Holden" last="Bass"] – Nemaha Central, 6’4”, 270, OL
Bass continues to maintain his status as the top ranked offensive lineman in the class. He’s been showing why he’s regarded as one of the top two-way linemen in the state during May. Bass competed at the Sharp Elite showcase earlier this month, and he showed out during one-on-one’s. Since that performance he’s earned offers from Benedictine College and Peru State College. Expect another All-State season from the Nemaha Central product this fall.
No. 5: [player_tooltip player_id="259786" first="Omari" last="Elias"] – Kapaun Mt. Carmel, 5’9, 185, RB
Rounding off the Top 5 in this May update is the workhorse back out of Kapaun Mt. Carmel. After making his debut in the previous update; Elias still has a strong grip on the No. 1 ranked running back spot. He’s another prospect that performed well while competing at the Sharp Elite showcase, and he also had a solid year on the mat; taking home 5th Place while at the 5A State Wrestling Tournament. It will be interesting to see if Elias can reach 2,000 yards rushing again during the ’22 season.
More players at the top of the rankings are No. 6: [player_tooltip player_id="81144" first="Kaiden" last="Seamster"] – Chanute (ATH), No. 7: [player_tooltip player_id="81149" first="Damon" last="Mesa"] – Holcomb (WR), No. 8 [player_tooltip player_id="230440" first="Dylan" last="Dunn"] – Blue Valley SW (QB), No. 9: [player_tooltip player_id="146115" first="Cencere" last="Thompson"] – Wichita NW (RB), and No. 10: [player_tooltip player_id="145572" first="Dillon" last="Marshall"] – St. Thomas Aquinas (DB)
