Every Friday in March and April, we’ll take an in-depth look at prospects across Oklahoma. Each week, we’ll ask for prospects who want their hudl film to be evaluated by us and in these posts, we’ll have some form of a scouting report on each prospect. Each week we’ll be doing this, so if you’ve reached out and are not listed this week, there’s a good chance you’ll be in next week’s feature. Our inbox was absolutely flooded with film over the last week so we have plenty of prospects to get to throughout March and April. This is also a great way for us to see some of the prospects that we haven’t either seen or in some cases, haven’t heard of yet. We can always be better covering the state and this is a great way to see some new players across Oklahoma.
If you’re a prospect or a parent of a prospect and want more exposure this spring, sign up for our Showcase Camp on April 30th in Tulsa. Dion Williams – 2023 DB – Moore
First up on the film review, this week is defensive back Dion Williams from the class of 2023. Dion stands 5’10” at 165 pounds out of Moore High School. The first thing that stands out about Dion is how he breaks on the ball when it is in the air. He likes to play physical especially when he lines up over the wide receiver pressed at the line of scrimmage. He plays his best when he gets hands-on at the point of contact with the wide receiver. When he backpedals, you can tell that he has good quick hips that help him break out of his backpedal. He plays best when he is playing press technique on the wide receiver and seems more confident when he does. I would like to see him set the edge more and not give up so much ground. Comparing the 2 techniques he plays, press and off coverage, he seems more comfortable playing up to initiate that contact and dictate where the receiver goes. Dion has a chance to play at the next level as long as he adds more weight to his frame especially if he keeps working press coverage and playing physical.
Jayelyn Robinson – 2025 OL – Victory Christian
As we dive into more tape we came across another 2025 prospect and this time he comes from Victory Christian. Last week, we took a look at Jalen Baker, outside linebacker/safety, who was impressive for the Conquerors. This week, we now take a look at Jayelyn Robinson 6’0″ and 240-pound guard/nose guard. Jayelyn is going to be a good prospect to keep up with with some years left under his belt. The most intriguing part about his game is when he gets his hands on you, with a good power base, he looks solid with long arms. He tries to finish his blocks every time he lines up on his opponent. He mainly plays out of a 2-point stance but can get to the second level in a hurry. He moves well and was impressive when he skip pulls around the center to the second level. He fits upon his defender with a good base and does a good job of playing until the whistle. In his pass sets, he does play high out of his 2-point stance and that is one thing I would like to see him work on this offseason. Jayelyn played a significant time this year as a freshman which will speak volumes for him going into his sophomore season. With Jayelyn helping anchor the front line, I look for the Conquerors to be ready for the 2022 season with some of the other prospects we looked at recently.
Jayen Monsi – 2025 LB – Mustang
This 2025 class is starting to take shape after these last few weeks of the film we have been able to review. This time, we have watched film over 2025 LB out of Mustang HS, Jayen Friesen. Coach Lee Blakenship is going to have a young inside linebacker that is coming up. As a sophomore, Monsi’s body frame is 5’10” and 185 pounds which bode well for him playing inside linebacker, as a freshman. Being in the class of 2025, allows him to have a solid off-season in the weight room to add good weight for years to come. Monsi is the linebacker that will run sideline to sideline to make plays for you. When he gets to the point of attack, Monsi likes to play physical. He works from the hip inside out when he comes in for a tackle. Monsi does a good job tracking the correct hip coming in for the tackle. By doing so, he doesn’t allow the ball carrier to cut back on him. I would like to see him work his read step quicker which will allow him to get downhill faster. As Monsi keeps working on these techniques as he grows, he will turn out to be a good inside linebacker.
Noah Friesen – 2023 OL – Kingfisher
Moving on to the 2023 class for the next 2 prospects, we take a look at Noah Friesen. Friesen plays on the offensive line at 5’9″ and 225 pounds. One thing I noticed was how quickly he can get up the second level. I like to watch this with offensive linemen as we can see their footwork and the angles they take to get there. Friesen knows how to use his base to engage his opponents well. Playing center, most centers have to block back depending on the scheme an offense uses. Friesen blocks back well on his opponents and finishes his blocks. I didn’t see many double teams on film which typically mean the coaches trust him 1 on 1. The one thing that Friesen can work on is with his pass pro and being a bit high at times. He needs to use his leverage to get under the defensive lineman. Friesen needs to continue to work on these things for this season to keep developing his overall game.
Joseph Garza – 2023 DB/OLB – Catoosa
To finish our film review, we will take a look at 2023 defensive back/outside linebacker Joseph Garza. Garza is an interesting one to watch on film as he looks long and rangy as an athlete. He shows on film he can play defensive back and then is moved to outside linebacker. I believe with his frame, 6’3″ and 165 pounds, that he could develop as an outside linebacker. A few things that stand out to me watching the film are how fast and explosive he is at setting the edge. Either at cornerback or outside linebacker, the ball carriers struggled to get the edge on the Indians with Garza outside. Garza showed plenty of times having a nose for the ball and disrupting plays over and over again. The other things that I liked about him were when he made a tackle, his feet never stopped on impact and he was able to get off blocks quickly. I am interested to see how the off-season has gone for him this year. I would like to see him add weight to his current frame as I don’t believe that will slow him down. I believe it will help him prepare for more outside linebacker or even corner reps for this spring ball season. Garza is a prospect that I will be looking at with spring ball around the corner. With Catoosa making the playoffs this past season, Coach Hood has his football team pointing in the right direction. With prospects like Garza and Deandre Hamilton Deandre Hamilton 6'1" | 170 lbs | ATH Catoosa | 2025 State OK , we watched last week in film review, the Indians look to be in a good position this upcoming football season.
