I will begin with the quarterbacks and move through the sections in numerical order. In this article, we take a look at New York’s Section IX. This section encompasses schools located in Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster counties.
Logan Morris, Port Jervis-2024:
The Port Jervis offense will be looking to Junior quarterback, Logan Morris in 2022. The Raiders finished with a 9-3 record this past season behind the arm of Brett Fuller. With Fuller set to graduate this spring, the keys to the offense will be given to Morris. In limited action the past two seasons, Logan has shown promise. In 7 appearances, he has gone 10/17 for 100 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Port Jervis will return much of their dominant offensive core from 2021, most notably their lethal receiver duo in Calvin Crews and Jacob Balmos. Morris is in prime position to emerge as one of the elite talents in Section IX. Possessing an excellent frame and great zip on his passes, the Raiders offense is in good hands this fall.
William Krasniewicz, Warwick-2023:
Due to a heavy reliance on Senior talent in 2021, Warwick will see the mass exodus of its starters this spring. Quarterback William Krasniewicz looks to step in and give the offense a new identity this season. Krasniewicz appeared in 6 games last season, completing 12/17 passes for 181 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Now entering his Senior year, Krasniewicz is in prime position to lead Warwick on a potential deep playoff run. Despite missing the post season, the Wildcats showed promise and grit in 2021 finishing with a record of 6-4. With a reloaded offensive attack, expect William and Warwick to turn some heads in 2022.
Kai Bohunicky, Washingtonville-2023:
Despite a disappointing 3-6 record in 2021, it was clear that the Wizards offense was ready to turn a corner. Behind the continued improvement of quarterback Kai Bohunicky, Washingtonville showed that there’s plenty to look forward to in 2022. Bohunicky is entering his Senior year, his third as a starter, and seems likely to have a much larger role in the offense. With the maturation of Kai as a quarterback, the Wizards could look to incorporate a larger percentage of passing plays into their offense this season. Since taking over under center, Bohunicky’s primary role has been as a handoff specialist. In 12 starts over 2 seasons, Kai has completed 21/51 passes for 431 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions while adding 92 carries for 110 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Landon Ramsey, Red Hook-2024:
2021 saw the emergence of Sophomore Landon Ramsey under center for the Raiders. Leading Red Hook to an 8-3 record and a playoff appearance, Ramsey showed the promise of a future star. This past season, Landon passed for 756 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions while also adding 69 yards and 3 scores with his legs. Red Hook will see a decent amount of player turnover in 2022, but much of their young offensive core will remain in tact. With the advantage of a full year in the system and many familiar faces around him, Ramsey is set for a monstrous Junior season. Landon possesses a tremendous physical toolset and an excellent frame. Entering 2022, Ramsey and the Raiders look to have one of the most lethal offenses in section IX.
Jake Carter, Burke Catholic-2023:
2021 did not play out the way that Burke Catholic had planned, yet there were plenty of positive takeaways from the disappointing season. The most prominent being the emergence of a pair of playmakers in the backfield. Quarterback, Jake Carter and his tailback, Chris Leahy displayed tremendous promise this past season. While Carter’s stats may not be the most eye popping for a 10 game starter, he proved to excel in the game manager role. Jake passed for 264 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions while carrying the ball 44 times for 94 yards and a touchdown. As mentioned before, when asked to pass, Carter was quite efficient with the football, completing 41/72 passes on the season. 2022 is a season filled with potential for the Eagles. Expect Carter to lead a turnaround season and guide Burke Catholic back to the post season.
