This event will take place on April 2nd at Kentucky State University, and will be hosted by the Building Lives Through Sports Network. What is truly thrilling to think about is the number of drills that primarily focus on 1v1 action. This allows all these players to be given the spotlight to show how talented they are for the number of college recruiters in attendance. What is also exciting is that some of these athletes come from out-of-state schools to attend this event which adds more talent not just from Kentucky. Although we may not cover all of the players registered to participate in this article, there is no doubt in our minds that there is going to be an abundance of football talent being held at the showcase for people to see. Today, we are going to highlight some of the kids participating in the upcoming showcase.
Andrew Witherington Andrew Witherington 6'0" | 160 lbs | QB Lexington Tates Creek | 2024 State KY QB | 5-11, 155lbs. Class of 2024 | Tates Creek High School | Lexington, Kentucky | Tape:
Andrew balled out his past sophomore season throwing for over 1700 passing yards and completing 13 passing touchdowns. What is extraordinary about his ability to play QB is his stellar accuracy. He can throw the football into a gap between two secondary defenders, or even thread the needle to his receiver on the edge of the endzone. Along with that, Andrew is incredible with his quick release throws, especially when he is throwing out of the pocket. Looking forward to seeing this kid throw the football in the upcoming showcase.
Porter Rode RB | 5-9, 190lbs. Class of 2024 | Evansville Central High School | Evansville, Indiana | Tape:
Porter is an athletically-gifted running back with lots of talented traits attributed to his playstyle. One notable trait is his quick acceleration right after the handoff. Once the ball is in his hands, Porter is off to the races and won’t let anybody stand in his way. Despite being smaller compared to opposing defensive linemen, Porter can still beat them out with his incredible strength as he makes it difficult to be tackled. He also has good field vision and can easily make sharp cuts by finding open gaps in the defense. Excited to see what he has in store for this spring’s Bluegrass Showcase.
Evan Shelton WR | 6-4,190lbs. Class of 2023 | Elizabethtown High School | Elizabethtown, Kentucky | Tape:
Evan has a high ceiling playing at the wide receiver position. The junior possesses a promising physique, built at 6-4, taller than an average wide receiver at his age. Along with his height, his impressive vertical allows him to catch a lot of throws that go over his head. Evan can also play cornerback as well which gives coaches a true utility piece for a team. Looking ahead at the approaching showcase, make sure to go check this kid out as he holds a lot of skills that would be valuable for any college football team to get their hands on.
Joshua Johnson DL |6-0, 280lbs. Class of 2023 | DuPont Manuel High School | Louisville, Kentucky | Tape:
Josh is an outright brute to an opposing offense. The junior posted a solid 3rd season of high school ball stacking up 10.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles. What is truly remarkable about his playstyle is that he plays with a lot of aggression. Not many recruits will look at his emotional play on the football field, but what should be noted is that a defensive lineman with an ambition to beat down whoever possesses the football is the type of lineman you want on your D-line. Josh is exceptionally strong which enables him to push down opposing guards to put pressure on the offense. Excited to see what he has in the bag for the upcoming showcase.
Alex Holbrook MLB | 6-0, 195lbs. Class of 2025 | Grant County High School | Dry Ridge, Kentucky | Tape:
Although only being a freshman, Alex already shows amazing field vision playing as the middle linebacker. Along with his stellar field vision are his quick reads on where the football is going to go. A talented trait in many linebackers is their ability to predict where the football is going to go, and head towards that direction to make the tackle. Alex not only possesses that trait but performs it exceptionally well. There is a lot of potential for Holbrook as he is only a freshman who has lots of time to further develop his game. Make sure to take a look at Alex and his ability to play linebacker in the Bluegrass Showcase.
