However, there are a lot big time producers and performers returning to play on high school fields across WI. They are going to be poised to take over and put up even bigger numbers and compete for the #1 spot in all the statistical categories. Today I want to take a look at those big time producers on offense that are returning in 2022. We will take a look at the numbers, and look at the role I expect them to have this coming season! Let’s get it started!
Top Returning Passers
Jackson Flottmeyer Jackson Flottmeyer 6'5" | 220 lbs | QB Aquinas | 2023 State WI – Aquinas: 2,879 Yards, 34 TDs, 4 INTs, 70.9% Comp. Pct., 205.6 YPG
Jackson returns for his senior season with a lot of previous production and expectations. He is locked into the running for QB1 in the Class of 2023. At 6’5″ 215 lbs he has the frame to play at the highest level and the arm talent, and decision making to match. He led his team to a State Championship as a junior while also finishing with the second most passing yards in the state, tied for the third most TD passes, and the 4th highest QB rating. The yards and TDs are the most among any returning QB. Jackson is in for a big year, but he will have to do it while workin with several new targets.
Jerry Kaminski Jerry Kaminski 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Sun Prairie East | 2023 State WI – Sun Prairie: 2,559 Yards, 30 TDs, 6 INTs, 59.9% Comp. Pct., 182.8 YPG
Jerry is another QB firmly in the running for QB1 in the Class of 2023. He led an elite Sun Prairie team to a State Runner Up finish in 2021, and put up the numbers to match. He finished the season Top 5 in passing yards and Top 10 in passing TDs. I’m excited to see him on the field this season, and see his development. He made a nice sophomore to junior jump. If he can do that again he will be in a great spot to have a chance to play at a high collegiate level. He puts the work in and is a good leader. I’m expecting a good run from the Cardinal signal caller.
Nate Kollath Nate Kollath 6'4" | 235 lbs | QB Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State WI – Sussex Hamilton: 2,392 Yards, 32 TDs, 10 INTs, 55.4% Comp. Pct., 217.5 YPG
Nate was one of the most productive passers in 2021 and he is poised to do it again in 2022. He finished Top 10 in yards, TDs, and YPG in the state. That is just with his arm. Nate is also a talented dual threat option who can kill teams with his legs. He will have to work with a few new weapons this season as his two go to guys graduateda nd are headed to the next level, but Kollath has the talent to elevate those around him. Expect to see him high in the updated rankings.
Top Returning Ball Carriers
Blake Schraufnagel- Mayville: 297 Carries, 2,421 Yards, 39 TDs, 8.2 Yards/Carry, 172.9 YPG
The top returning RB for the 2022 season is Blake when it comes to production. He was the second leading rusher in the state on the way to a Runner Up finish. He was also in second for rushing TDs. The Mayville offense ran through Blake, and you can expect that to continue in 2022. The two way playmaker has good size for the position at 6’1″ 180 lbs, and he prefers to run with power over anything else. He is going to be tough to slow down in 2022. Big numbers are on the way guaranteed.
Colton Brunell Colton Brunell 6'1" | 205 lbs | ATH Columbus | 2024 State WI – Columbus: 253 Carries, 2,221 Yards, 31 TDs, 8.8 Yards/Carry, 185.1 YPG
The sophomore finished with an amazing stat line as he ended the year with the third most yards, fifth most TDs, and 6th most YPG. Good luck slowing down this dude next season. He already had a great combo of speed and power in 2021, and he has been working hard in the weight room this offseason. He is just getting started. Keep an eye on him and watch for him to beat all these numbers. I’m hoping to see him in person in 2022.
Chase Matthias Chase Matthias 6'0" | 215 lbs | ATH Two Rivers | 2024 State WI – Two Rivers: 237 Carries, 2,040 Yards, 23 TDs, 8.6 Yards/Carry, 204.0 YPG
The sophomore has been in the running for best two way player since his freshman year. Nobody has made the two way impact he has, especially as an underclassman. On offense, Chase finished 7th in rushing yards and 3rd in YPG. On a game per game basis there were few RBs as productive as him, and none that are returning next season. Matthias is a powerful, athletic, well-rounded RB. He is going to blow people away with his two way numbers this season.
Top Returning Receivers
Keagan Jirschele- Mosinee: 77 Receptions, 1,082 Yards, 17 TDs, 14.1 Yards/Rec., 108 YPG
The sophomore class has a couple strong WR options, including the super productive WR out of Mosinee. The sophomore finished in the Top 5 in catches, yards, YPG, and TDs. He has proven that he is a go to option, and he is just getting started. Despite the pass heavy, spread it around offense in Mosinee the young beast was able to reel in big chunks of the workload. This is a name to watch, and I will be trying to get out to one of his games this season.
Drew Wagner Drew Wagner 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Kettle Moraine | 2024 State WI – Kettle Moraine: 50 Receptions, 1,021 Yards, 15 TDs, 20.4 Yards/Rec., 78 YPG
One of my favorite players in the state is the underclassman out of Kettle Moraine. He is such a naturally gifted WR. He runs sharp routes, can run every route on the tree, reels in everything within his catch radius, and is a beast after the catch. He also was very productive. Drew finished Top 5 in TDs, Top 10 in yards, and did it while only having 50 catches. Drew is a dangerous playmaker before and after the catch. He is must watch.
Ashton Henning- Shawano: 59 Receptions, 966 Yards, 11 TDs, 16.4 Yards/Rec., 96 YPG
The most productive uppeclassman returning in 2022 is the go to option at Shawano County. Ashton finished 8th in catches, 11th in yards, and 18th in TDs. Ashton is going to be poised for a big year as he steps into even more of a go to role. Despite being undersized, the WR clearly can handle a big target share. Expect him to be looked at as a slot option. Big year coming!
