By far the best looking prospect from top to bottom I have watched at Missouri Valley Conference camps this summer is Columbus (WI)

. Colton showed off as a prospect that has consistently looked like a game-changer no matter what position he ends up playing at the next-level. He started his day in Grand Forks by keeping up the trend of his explosion levels that I have seen for over a year now, logging a 10’1 (twice) and from the testing numbers, had one of the biggest triple jumps at the UND Flagship Camp overall. Colton showed off in Indy and 1v1s a prospect with excellent determination and one that is always willing to go the extra mile as Colton showed off excellent change of direction and huge amounts of physicality with his downhill running ability that is super well-balanced thru contact. The week after camp, Colton gave his verbal commitment to the Fighting Hawks as North Dakota lands one of Wisconsin’s most explosive overall prospects and got an absolute steal in this young man as another key piece coming to the Fighting Hawks from the Madison Area. is going to run all over defenses across WI this fall. Colton is coming off a season where he lead the state with over 2800 rushing yards while leading his team to a State Championship. Colton averaged just under 23 attempts a game in 2022, and should reach similar numbers this fall. Columbus will need to replace some excellent OL talent to help lead the way, but with the speed, power, vision, and balance that Colton plays with, and the workload that is sure to be there, Brunell has to be the top choice to lead the state in rushing once again. He is also within about 1,800 yards of the career rushing record for the state. Something to watch closely.

You can rank the 6′ 205 lbs athlete out of Columbus HS at RB, LB, or ATH. However you want to look at Colton should result in the same way. Brunell is well on his way to being a D1 prospect. He dominated the WI HS scene as a junior. 2,800+ yards, 43 TDs, 9.1 yards per carry. All culminating in one of the best games of the year where he helped win the State Championship.
Turn on the tape and the traits are just as exciting as the production. Colton plays with the burst and vision to dominate at and behind the line of scrimmage. He sees and reacts to gaps and blocks so quickly and when he sticks his foot in the ground Colton explodes to full speed. That burst and his balance pair together to generate the power to be able to run through arm tackles with ease, and lower his shoulder and punish defenders. The quickness, power, and balance pair together to make him a nightmare for defenses. Add in enough long speed to break off big plays and you get an RB that should be high on the boards of many programs. He currently holds offers from Duluth, Winona state, North Dakota, Sioux Falls, Mankato, and Illinois State.

Colton is a running back prospect I recall from scouting our Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase a couple years back and one that has continued to rise his skillsets highly watching him nearly two years later. Colton showed off some ingrained footwork at the South Dakota State prospect camp that also carried excellent balance in the reps I watched out of him. He also showed off a prospect that is a certified-gamer, as he showed off that he was always looking for more in the reps I caught to get the college coaches attention with the amount of reps he put in the drills I got to watch in Brookings. This young man has continued to grow his chiseled lower body that shows off plenty of durability in my eyes for yards after contact. His tape shows off elite vision that also carries well-groomed instincts with his fluid change of direction. Colton shows off that durable gene I expected to see on his second clip as he gets out of a high-traffic area with smooth persistence. I certainly see Division I college football in Colton’s future as he has a couple FCS offers already, but I think this young man is about spring upwards after the Jackrabbits camp with his recruitment.

Record in Sights: Career Rushing Yards, Career ScoringrnColton is in position to rewrite multiple records during his senior season. The two big ones are the career rushing yards, and career scoring records. First up, Colton sits at 572 carries, 5,118 yards, and 74 TDs. He is currently 1,814 yards behind #1 in the category. Last season alone Brunell went over 2,800 rushing yards, so it is safe to say that arguably the most sought after record in WI is in danger of not only being broken but completely shattered.
Brunell can also make a push for the career scoring record. He sits at 462 points scored. In 2022 he scored 266 points, enough to lead the state. If he hits those same numbers that will put Colton in second place overall. It would also put him only 74 points behind the top spot. That might be a stretch to hit considering he would need to score 13 more TDs than he did in 2022. However, he does look well on pace to finish second all time in scoring.
