[player_tooltip player_id="289671" first="Darius" last="Diaz"] – Wichita Northwest, 5’10”, 180, LB
The linebacker group in the Class of ’22 is deep with quality talent, as we currently have 40 players ranked. There are many accomplished backers that have put together solid careers, but Diaz has an impressive resume of his own. The Wichita Northwest product has multiple 5A All-State Honorable Mention selections to his name, and this past season he was a 2nd Team All-City League selection.
Diaz has been a key defender for the Grizzlies the past two seasons, and he was one of their lead tacklers during the ’21 campaign. He’d finish fourth on the team in total tackles with 42 on the year, and had three sacks, one interception and four pass breakups. Diaz will be taking his talents to Salina, Kansas, as he’ll be joining the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan University.
[player_tooltip player_id="289666" first="Quantre" last="Moore"] – Washington, 6’0”, 185, ATH
Prospects coming out of the Kansas City, Kansas, area have had a tough draw the last few years. Many programs were unable to play during the 2020 season due to the pandemic, so the ’21 season was their first live action since the fall of 2019. It took a few weeks for some prospects to get a rhythm going, but not [player_tooltip player_id="289666" first="Quantre" last="Moore"]. He dominated in his final high school season, as he’d go on to rack up 89 total tackles with 18 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, and five forced fumbles.
His stellar senior campaign earned him a 5A All-State Honorable Mention nod, and he was named the KCAL Defensive Player of the Year. In addition to these postseason awards, Moore was also selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Moore still remains unsigned, but he’d bring a high motor and quickness to any program that takes a chance on him.
[player_tooltip player_id="289156" first="BJ" last="Ward"] – Shawnee Heights, 6’0”, 180, DB
Ward is another Class 5A prospect that will be making his debut in the update. His play at corner helped the Thunderbirds limit opposing offenses to 19 points per game in 2021. Ward would end his senior year piling up 32 total tackles with two interceptions and six pass breakups. He was drawing interest from some NAIA programs and a few JUCO schools, but ultimately decided to bet on himself and commit to Independence Community College.
The Indy commit has the potential to become a solid No. 1 corner at the next level. He has a nice frame that can matchup against most wide outs, and he does a great job of getting his head around to track the ball. Ward also can quickly break on a pass to cause deflections and he has the versatility to play safety.
[player_tooltip player_id="289160" first="Isiah" last="Tyson"] – Parsons, 6’3”, 225, DL
Closing out this last Class of ’22 Watch List is a very disruptive edge rusher hailing from the small town of Parsons, Kansas. The Vikings went on a special run during the ’21 season, and their defense played a huge role in their success. This stout unit was led by [player_tooltip player_id="289160" first="Isiah" last="Tyson"]’s standout play at defensive end. Tyson finished the season leading the Vikings in total tackles with 68 on the year, and would rack up 12 tackles for loss and four sacks.
The senior would earn a 3A All-State Honorable Mention nod and was a 1st Team All-District selection. Tyson will also be joining [player_tooltip player_id="289666" first="Quantre" last="Moore"] in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Isiah was on the radar of a few Division II programs, but Fort Hays State managed to land the talented defensive end. The Tigers are getting an absolute gem, as Tyson could potentially compete for early playing time as a freshman.
