There are 12 wide receivers in the Top 100 and 26 wide receivers overall for the Class of 2024 in Missouri in the Prep Redzone database, which continues to grow every day.
Today we are taking a closer look at the top prospects at the position. (Click on the player names to check out their prospect pages on PRZ, including links to their HUDL highlights.)
1. Ryan Wingo Ryan Wingo 6'2" | 200 lbs | WR St. Louis University High | 2024 State MO , St. Louis University High
Wingo was a Division I prospect before he even arrived in high school and his first one and a half years in high school have only helped to solidify that status. A 6-foot-2, 200-pounder, Wingo is the top overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2024 and has already received scholarship offers from some of the top programs in college football, including Notre Dame, Texas, Penn State, Iowa and Oregon.
After a freshman season limited to his team playing just five games, because of COVID issues in St. Louis City, Wingo broke out as a sophomore. He caught 32 passes for 638 yards and 10 touchdowns. He rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns. He also added a return touchdown for 15 total touchdowns.
Wingo established himself as one of the top sprinters in the state as a freshman and could do also special things on the track before his high school career is over.
With his size, speed and early success, Wingo, whose two older brothers played at Arkansas and Missouri, looks like a rare talent who could end up with offers from every major program in the country.
2. Jeremiah McClellan Jeremiah McClellan 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR CBC | 2024 State MO , CBC
McClellan, a 6-1, 185-pounder, is a little bit smaller and a little bit slower than Wingo, at the moment, but is a special talent who is already a sought-after Division I prospect and could also end up with offers from every major program in college football before he graduates high school.
He checks in as the No. 4 overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2024 after a sophomore season that saw him emerge as the best receiver on CBC’s state championship squad in his first year as a starter. McClellan caught 41 passes for 989 yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 24.1 yards per reception.
He led CBC in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and yards per reception and was second in receptions. He broke the school record for receiving yards in a game when he caught 11 passes for 284 yards and two scores against Edwardsville.
McClellan, whose father played at Kansas State and whose brother played at Missouri State, could still be growing too. Both his dad and older brother are a few inches taller. His younger brother, Nick, already looks like a good quarterback prospect to watch in the Class of 2026 too.
3. Freddie Lavan, Liberty North
Lavan, a 6-1, 180-pounder, faced off against McClellan and CBC in the Class 6 championship game and was actually the most productive wide receiver in the game when he caught three passes for 76 yards and a touchdown — he gained some separate against a Division I cornerback signee and caught a beautiful deep pass from Sam Van Dyne Sam Van Dyne 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Liberty North | 2023 State MO .
Lavan’s sophomore season statistics weren’t as eye-popping as Wingo’s and McClellan’s as he caught 25 passes for 481 yards and five touchdowns and also added a rushing score, but he has good size, speed and athletic traits and we expect him to be one of the best wideouts in the state this fall as a junior.
Lavan, who is the No. 30 overall prospect in Missouri for the Class of 2024, isn’t at the level of the players ranked above him right now but has a chance to be a special player and join that elite tier as a prospect.
4. Mike Lane Mike Lane 6'2" | 160 lbs | WR Winnetonka | 2024 State MO , Winnetonka
A 6-2, 160-pounder, Lane had an impressive sophomore season, on both sides of the ball, while playing with one of the top 2022 prospects in Missouri in Iowa State signee Jason Essex Jason Essex 6'2" | 210 lbs | WR Winnetonka | 2022 State MO .
Lane recorded 39 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns during his sophomore season and also recorded three interceptions on defense. His 19.3 yards per reception showed his explosiveness in the passing game.
Like the three players above him, Lane, the No. 31 overall prospect in Missouri in the Class of 2024, has the size, speed and athleticism that Division I coaches are looking for at the wide receiver position. He may not be a well known name yet, but Lane could emerge as one of the better players in the Show Me State the next two years.
5. Jobe Bryant Jobe Bryant 5'11" | 160 lbs | WR Park Hills Central | 2024 State MO , Park Hills Central
A Division I prospect on the basketball court, the 5-11, 160-pounder checks in as the No. 33 overall prospect in Missouri in the sophomore class after a record-setting breakout football campaign last fall.
Bryant recorded 56 catches for 1,052 yards — he averaged 18.8 yards per reception — and scored 17 total touchdowns.
Bryant proved he is a special talent on the football field as well as the basketball court. It will be interesting to watch his athletic career unfold in both sports over the next two years and to see which direction he ends up going.
