Continue ReadingThroughout this series, I will be breaking down the potential breakout players, by section and position, for the 2022 season. I will begin with the quarterbacks and move through the sections in numerical order. In this article, we take a look at New York’s Section II. This section encompasses schools located in Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington counties.
Brice Burr, Cambridge-Salem- 2024
Entering his Junior season, Brice Burr is on pace to make a large jump in production. While Burr showed steady improvement in his second season under center, 2022 is lining up to be his best season thus far. Brice was able to guide Cambridge-Salem to a 6-4 record, while passing for 569 touchdowns to go along with 7 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. With the team’s three leading rushers from the 2021 season graduating, the offense will likely flow through Burr in 2022. With his favorite receiver, Alex Luke, returning expect Burr to erupt this upcoming season.
Bryce Layton, Scotia-Glenville- 2023
Although Bryce attempted just 7 passes in 2021, he is in position to carry the torch in 2022 for the Tartans. With the graduation of 2021 starter, Jack Armstrong, Scotia-Glenville will be turning to Layton to lead the offense. Layton saw action this past season primarily on the defensive side of the ball where he registered 18 tackles. It will be interesting to see if a competitor rises for Bryce, but with 2022 appearing to be in Layton’s hands- don’t be surprised if he emerges out of seemingly nowhere.
Ollie Bolduc, Schuylerville- 2025
The departure of three-year starter Owen Sherman leaves a void at the quarterback position headed into 2022 for the Black Horses. Luckily for Schuylerville, their quarterback of the future is already well versed in their offense. Entering his Sophomore season, Ollie Bolduc already has two years of varsity experience. While he has had limited experience under center at the varsity level, the weapons around him, most notably running back Lukas Sherman, give Bolduc the opportunity to thrive in this offense not only next season, but for several years to come. Ollie has a solid frame coupled with excellent athleticism. These traits allowed him to see action at a variety of positions- primarily as a receiver. The then-Freshman only attempted three passes, completing one for 10 yards, but with a clear path to the starting job, the young Bolduc is set to take Section II Class C by storm.
Luke Misetich, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk- 2024
Overshadowed by an elite ground attack, quarterback Luke Misetich had a quietly productive season. RCS compiled nearly 3000 yards rushing, making the life of a passer much easier. Misetich completed just under 50% of his passes at a rate of 48.9% while totaling 579 yards through the air for 7 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. Following an injury to senior starter Nathaniel Ray, Luke took the starting job and never looked back. With a full offseason and training camp to prepare him to be the starter this upcoming season, the sky is the limit for Misetich and this RCS offense.
Caden Allen, Warrensburg/North Warren- 2024
In 2021, Allen was able to play the role of game manager while handing the ball to two 1000 yard rushers. Despite a heavy rushing centric offense, Caden contributed 564 yards passing with 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Warrensburg/North Warren was able to rally behind Allen to a 7-3 record in 2021. With both 1000 yard backs graduating this spring, Caden’s offensive role is likely to improve immensely. Entering season two as a starter, expect Caden Allen to be a reoccurring name in Section II.
