The Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase gave us a look at how prospects measure up and fare against some of the best competitors in the area. During the showcase, players tested out in the 40, L-drill, shuttle, and broad jump, then broke into position drills, leading to competitions drills. Throughout the showcase, I took note of players that showed out and gave us glimpses of their untapped potential. Here I summarize what I saw from the defensive back prospects. <hr /> <img class="wp-image-247079 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/1-Adin-Carrera.jpg" alt="" width="470" height="313" /> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="245857" first="Adin" last="Carrera"] | Bellevue East | Class of 2024 | 5’9" 170 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/16008743/Adin-Carrera" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/Adin_Carrera" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> I came away very impressed with Adin and the amount of fight he showed in the 1v1 drills. He can keep up very well with wide receivers and is physical with his hands. You can tell he has the mechanics of the position down and has the tenacity for it. Despite giving up height to some of the receivers, he still managed to play to his coverage strengths and won his fair share of reps. On film, you can tell he shows up to the game prepared and recognizes schemes and plays. Overall he tested very well and showed promising signs that he is only getting better. Calling it now, Carrera will emerge as a top DB in his class. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/16008743/6177c06115f5840b689324d5" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247080 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/2-Devin-Davies.jpg" alt="" width="464" height="308" /></strong></em> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="245853" first="Devin" last="Davies"] | Lincoln Southeast | Class of 2025 | 5’10" 150 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Hudl | Twitter</strong></em></p> I came in not knowing a whole lot about Devin, but I was impressed with what I saw. Davies has the makings of a future shutdown corner and gives the Knights many reasons to be excited for the freshman. Devin did well in the agility drills with a 4.78 in the shuttle and 8.06 in the L-Drill. Davies took a few lumps in the competition drills, but for the most part, he was able to hold his own against more experienced receivers. Very excited for this freshman and how he continues to develop. &nbsp; <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247084 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/5-Clyde-Hinton.jpg" alt="" width="472" height="314" />[player_tooltip player_id="193798" first="Clyde" last="Hinton"] | Plattsmouth | Class of 2022 | 6’1" 190 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/11664591/Clyde-Hinton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/Clyd3Hinton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> Clyde balled out at the showcase and tested out as one of the best DBs and overall athletes. He blazed through the 40-yard dash with a 4.50, did the shuttle in 4.47, posted a 10’ broad jump, and a 7.19 in the L-Drill. Hinton passes the eye test for a DB and has the agility, fluid hips, and ball skills to play at the next level. He performed very well competing against some of the area’s top receivers during competition drills. Clyde is aggressive in his play; he just attacks whether he’s going in for an interception or making a tackle. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/11664591/61809248da511c0b101cd065" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247081 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/3-TJ-Fitzpatrick.jpg" alt="" width="471" height="313" />[player_tooltip player_id="240003" first="TJ" last="Fitzpatrick"] | Plattsmouth | Class of 2023 | 6’0" 160 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/13148951/Tj-Fitzpatrick" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/TJFitzpatrick3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> Last year, TJ burst onto the scene with his smart, ball-hawking, and aggressive play for the Blue Devils. I continued to see that from Fitzpatrick as the camp progressed. He tested very well 4.68 40-yard dash, 4.59 shuttle, 9’3" broad jump, and 7.53 L- drill- all excellent numbers and are up there with some of the best. He has long arms and is very rangy, and stayed step by step with his opponents. As one of the top junior prospects, I expected to see him match up with some of the top receivers, which he did, and he did not disappoint. When you watch his tape, you see a player with instincts and a knack for making big plays (9 interceptions). You’re going to want to get your offers in soon. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/13148951/618c2403d45ecc0da011ab3f" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247085 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/6-Donovan-Jones.jpg" alt="" width="470" height="313" />[player_tooltip player_id="245889" first="Donovan" last="Jones"] | Omaha North | Class of 2024 | 5’9" 155 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/14486760/Donovan-Jones" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/D1onovan4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> Watch out for [player_tooltip player_id="245889" first="Donovan" last="Jones"] from Omaha North who turned some heads at Sunday’s showcase. Jones is an impressive safety prospect in the 2024 class. Donovan’s confidence and poise were very impressive, and he only seemed to gain more of it as the showcase continued. Donovan was fired up and ready to line up with anybody by the time we were getting ready to do one-on-ones. There are tons of things to like about Donovan’s upside, and he will be an elite prospect sooner rather than later. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/14486760/6196b2090c53590a7c1b0449" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247086 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/8-Gunnar-Lym.jpg" alt="" width="472" height="314" />[player_tooltip player_id="245883" first="Gunnar" last="Lym"] | Bennington | Class of 2024 | 5’11" 160 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/14878913/Gunnar-Lym" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/gunnarlym2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> Gunnar sneakily had an excellent season for the state champion Bennington Badgers and followed it up with a great camp showing. He has great length for the safety position and shows a great football IQ. He can close in on receivers in a snap and is aggressive when making plays on the ball. Please do not sleep on this athlete and his underrated speed (4.60 40-yard), agility (4.57 shuttle 7.50 L-drill), and great tackling mechanics. The Badgers know how to develop their players, and Lym will be next in line. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/14878913/616d60345cb40305c84e133d" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247088 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/10-Blayke-Moore.jpg" alt="" width="475" height="316" />[player_tooltip player_id="227550" first="Blayke" last="Moore"] | Gretna | Class of 2023 | 6’2" 190 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/12956291/Blayke-Moore" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/BlaykeMoore5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> Talk about a prototypical safety prospect and played an integral part in a championship defense. He continued to show why he is such a high-regarded prospect. Moore was very fluid when running through the defensive back drills, and I was impressed with his performance in the testing section; 4.62 40-yard dash, 4.47 shuttle, and 7.44 L-drill. Blayke is a more significant defensive back but is smart when using his length to attack the ball and his size when squaring up for a devastating tackle. Blayke was a menace in the Dragon secondary and will make QBs question whether they should throw it to his side of the field. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/12956291/6168c32d664b24099c9b76a7" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><img class=" wp-image-247089 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/12/11-Gavin-Nunnally.jpg" alt="" width="472" height="314" />[player_tooltip player_id="245852" first="Gavin" last="Nunnally"] | Millard South | Class of 2023 | 6’1" 175 lbs</strong></em></p> <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/13075179/Gavin-Nunnally" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hudl</a> | <a href="https://twitter.com/NunnallyGavin">Twitter</a></strong></em></p> Gavin was very impressive at this camp. We already have him as a highly rated defensive back, and his performance at the showcase definitely reinforced that. Gavin is a natural defensive back, and we predict he will blow up with a more prominent role in the Patriot's defense in 2022. The first note is that Gavin is so, so fast, 4.65 in the 40-yard dash, and really shined in the shuttle with a 4.02, the fastest of anyone at the showcase. He also recorded a 9’10" broad jump, also among the best. Nunnally also went up against the top-performing receivers and did exceptionally well coming away with some impressive wins, and he picked off a few passes. One of the most impressive overall prospects at the showcase. <iframe src="//www.hudl.com/embed/video/3/13075179/613d0fad0dbfa60898d4b0b8" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe>
