Championship History: 2-2 (5th State Title Appearance)
For the third consecutive season, Lincoln Christian has punched their ticket to Edmond. The championship game this year will feature the last two state champs in 3A. Lincoln Christian captured their second title in school history in 2019 but fell to Holland Hall in 2020. The Bulldogs will be playing in their fifth state title game in school history and they hold a 2-2 record. The Bulldogs certainly will have a little revenge on their minds because they remember having to walk off the UCO field last year with a silver trophy instead of a second straight gold ball. This has the makings of a great match-up.
Offensive Production: 49.2 Points Per Game
This should come as a surprise to nobody as Lincoln Christian has one of the best offenses in the state, regardless of class. The Bulldogs have made lighting up scoreboards across the state a routine every single week. The Bulldogs are averaging just shy of 50 points per game this season. In fact, they’ve scored at least 50 points in eight games this season. In their semifinal showdown against Heritage Hall, Lincoln Christian scored 27 points in the win and that would be their season-low in points scored this year. Lincoln will look to light up Edmond after being contained in the title game a year ago.
Defensive Production: 13 Points Per Game
While most of the attention surrounding Lincoln Christian is on the high-powered offense and rightfully so, the defense has been outstanding this season and very underrated throughout the season. The Bulldogs are giving up just 13 points per game and haven’t gotten in many shootouts this season. The Bulldogs have given up 20 points or more just two times this season with the first coming in week one against Jones and then again in the semifinal round against a high-powered Heritage Hall offense. The Bulldogs will now shift their focus to Holland Hall and try to slow down the Dutch in the title game.
Notable
Lincoln Christian had to survive and advance to beat Heritage Hall in the semifinals on Friday night with a 27-20 victory. The Bulldogs and Chargers have become big playoff rivals and this was the fourth straight year with them meeting in the semifinals. Lincoln has now won three in a row against the Chargers and will get another shot at the Dutch in the state title game. As dominant as Lincoln Christian has been all year, they’ve also been clutch. They’ve had two victories where they drove down and scored with less than a minute to play, including their semifinal win.
#3 HOLLAND HALL DUTCH (12-1)
Aug. 27 – Beat Fort Worth All Saints, TX. 36-17
Sept. 3 – Beat Cascia Hall 45-7
Sept. 17 – Beat Metro Christian 37-7
Sept. 24 – Beat Mannford 41-0
Oct. 1 – Beat Central 50-14
Oct. 8 – Beat Vinita 48-12
Oct. 14 – Beat Berryhill 37-12
Oct. 22 – Beat Jay 42-8
Oct. 29 – Lost To Verdigris 12-7
Nov. 5 – Beat Inola 59-3
1st Round – Beat Checotah 62-0
Quarterfinals – Beat Perkins-Tryon 34-14
Semifinals – Beat Verdigris 35-6
Championship History: 1-0 (2nd State Title Appearance)
Holland Hall has certainly been on a successful run since officially joining the OSSAA in 2016. This is their sixth season playing in the OSSAA and this will be their second trip to the state championship. The Dutch are playing in the title game for the second straight season and this was to be expected by many coming into the season. During their dominant championship run a year ago, the Dutch also featured plenty of juniors and sophomores that would be returning in 2021. Holland Hall came into this season as the top ranked team in Class 3A and has found their way back to the title game.
Offensive Production: 41 Points Per Game
Holland Hall comes into the title game averaging just over 40 points per game and the Dutch haven’t taken a step back despite having a new quarterback and then various injuries to their offense. The Dutch have found their groove in the last few weeks on the offensive side of the ball and they’ve scored at least 30 points in every game except for one, and that was the week nine loss on the road against Verdigris. The Dutch were without several playmakers and would lose their quarterback in that game. The Dutch could definitely provide enough fireworks for a shootout in the title game.
Defensive Production: 8.7 Points Per Game
Holland Hall’s defensive unit in 2020 was legendary as they came into the title game giving up just shy of six points per game and this year’s unit isn’t so bad either. While they’re giving up literally a couple more points per game, the Dutch have been lights out on that side of the ball. The Dutch gave up 17 points in their season opener and that would end up being the most points anyone would score on Holland Hall this season. The Dutch will certainly have their hands full in the title game against a high-powered Lincoln Christian offense. They held Lincoln to just seven points in the title game last year.
Notable
Holland Hall is 24-1 in the last two seasons with the only loss coming in week nine of this season when they had their 20-game winning streak snapped on the road to Verdigris. The Dutch got an opportunity to avenge that loss in the semifinals and they left no doubt as they jumped out to an early lead and would roll to a 35-6 victory over the Cardinals. The Dutch have been on a roll since losing that week nine match-up to Verdigris. Since losing to the Cardinals, the Dutch have beaten their last four opponents by an average margin of 41 points per game.
