BRACKET BREAKDOWN
TEAM TO BEAT
Washington Warriors
It’s hard not to have the top ranked Washington Warriors as the team to beat in a 2A playoff field that is absolutely loaded. Their defense has been lights out over the last month with three straight shutouts and 30 points total since the start of October. Washington made a run to the state championship game a year ago but had to settle for the silver ball. They ran into a Metro Christian team that has knocked Washington out of the playoffs in three straight seasons. The Warriors and Patriots are on opposite sides of the bracket coming into this playoff run. The Warriors are going to rely on their stout defense and young playmakers on offense to potentially make another trip back to Edmond. Right now, they look like the clear team to beat in Class A.
TOP CONTENDERS
Marlow Outlaws
It was obvious from the opening game that Marlow was going to have a season to remember and they come into the playoffs as another unbeaten team. The Outlaws beat Chickasha by 26 points in the season opener and that ended up being the closest game of the year. The Outlaws would dominate everyone else by more than 26 points and they are absolutely rolling going into the playoffs. The path to a possible state title game is going to be tough with their side of the bracket. Last year, Marlow dropped down to Class 2A and became an instant impact team. After several years of being bounced out in the first round, Marlow made a run last year. This year, they don’t expect to just make a run, they expect to be in Edmond playing for a title in December.
Oklahoma Christian School Saints
The final undefeated team is Oklahoma Christian School after a perfect 10-0 season, the Saints are looking to build off their run to the semifinals a year ago. They fell short to eventual state champion Metro Christian in the semifinals and brought back the majority of their starters for another run this season. After testing themselves in the non-district season with several tough games, the Saints absolutely rolled over their opponents in district play and come into the playoffs with plenty of momentum. They have an outstanding roster and plenty of firepower on both sides of the ball. They might have surprised some people by making a run to the semifinals last year but now the semifinals should be the expectation with this year’s bunch and they obviously want more.
Rejoice Christian Eagles
Rejoice Christian got everyone’s attention from the very start of the season. The Eagles went on the road and knocked off Class A powerhouse and defending champion Cashion. The Eagles have one of the highest scoring offenses in the state. With the exception of that win over Cashion, Rejoice has scored at least 40 points in all of their games and dominated their district. The Eagles’ only blemish on their record was an early season loss to Beggs in non-district play. Rejoice might be able to get some revenge as they’re on the same side of the bracket as Beggs, but they wouldn’t meet until the semifinals. In only their second year playing in 2A football, the Eagles look primed to make a deep playoff run and compete for their first ever state championship.
Vian Wolverines
It seems like every season, you can write in Vian as a top contender in Class 2A. This year is no different as the Wolverines come into the postseason as district champions with a 9-1 record. The only loss came to top ranked Lincoln Christian out of Class 3A. The Wolverines are determined to make it back to the championship game after being bounced out of the playoffs early a season ago. They’ve been eliminated by Metro Christian in the last two playoff appearances but just like Washington, Vian is on the other side of the bracket from the Patriots. Vian is going to do what they’ve always done over the last decade plus. They’re going to rely on a strong running game with several standout athletes carrying the ball for the Wolverines.
Victory Christian Conquerors
It’s hard not to have Victory Christian as one of the top contenders considering the season that they’ve had. They played one of the toughest non-district schedules and they went 1-2 but got on everyone’s radar with an overtime win over Class A powerhouse Pawhuska. However, they went into district play with a 1-2 record but got everyone’s attention again in the final four weeks of the season. First, they absolutely hammered two-time defending champion Metro Christian with a stunning 62-7 victory. Nobody (outside of Victory’s campus) saw a 55-point win coming. The Conquerors would then have a week ten showdown with Beggs for the district championship and prevail in a close one. The Conquerors are ready to continue to shock 2A football as they head into the playoffs.
DARK HORSE
Metro Christian Patriots
This is the third class where we’ve listed the defending champion as the dark horse going into the playoffs. But just like with Carl Albert in 5A and Wagoner in 4A, that’s exactly what Metro Christian is as they enter the 2A playoffs. The two-time defending champs come into the playoffs as a three seed from their district after losing to Beggs and getting blown out by Victory Christian. However, the Patriots still have one of the best quarterbacks in the playoffs with junior QB

State
OK
, who had an outstanding playoff run to lead the Patriots to their second straight title a year ago. The path to another state championship game is going to be tough as they have to deal with district champions and potentially several undefeated teams. But to write off Metro Christian and think that they’re going to go out quietly would be foolish at this point.
MARQUEE MATCH-UPS
Adair AT Victory Christian
This begins a theme of games that aren’t typical first round match-ups as district champion Victory Christian hosts 2A perennial powerhouse Adair in the first round. The Warriors stumbled several times during the regular season but this is still a dangerous Adair team that knows what it takes to win in the playoffs. Victory is coming off a memorable win over Beggs in a district championship game in week ten. If they aren’t ready for the Warriors on Friday night, it’ll be an early exit for the Conquerors.
Metro Christian AT Sperry
This wouldn’t be a typical first round match-up in the last few playoff rounds in Class 2A. Metro Christian travels to face Sperry in the first round in a battle between two teams who have won the last three 2A titles. Sperry won it all in 2018 before Metro Christian captured the last two state championships. Not a typical first round match-up but that’s what we’ve come to expect in Class 2A as the brackets year after year are absolutely loaded. But more on that coming up in the “History Lesson” portion.
HISTORY LESSON
- In 2018, Class 3A went down to 32 teams and once that happened, Class 2A became the most competitive class in the state. Some of the better teams from Class 3A were all of a sudden dropped into 2A and this class has been incredibly competitive ever since. This year is no different when you look at the brackets. Out of all of the classes, this should be the most competitive class in Oklahoma this postseason.
- Cascia Hall is in the playoffs for the 35th consecutive season. That breaks Davis’ record of most consecutive years with a playoff appearance. What’s even more impressive about Cascia Hall’s streak is the various classes that they’ve punched their ticket into the postseason in. They’ve been up in Class 4A, 3A and 2A and no matter who they’re playing against, they find their way into the postseason.
- On the unfortunate side of streaks, Millwood is missing from the playoffs this year and that snaps a streak of 13 consecutive playoff appearances. The Falcons were in an absolutely loaded district this season that ended up with the top three teams all at 6-1 in district play. The Falcons will look to start a new streak in 2022.
CRYSTAL BALL
Oklahoma Christian School Over Rejoice Christian
Out of all the playoff previews, this one is by far the least confident I’ve been in making a prediction. You’ve read about how wide open this playoff field is and we’re using that to point to as reason number one. I have no idea who’s going to win the 2A championship. I can honestly sit here and make an argument for nearly every team in the top ten of our 2A rankings. But in the end, we’re going with Oklahoma Christian School to get the job done and knock off Rejoice Christian in the title game. But again, don’t put any stock in that prediction because who knows what’s going to happen with all of these talented teams facing off throughout the next five weeks. But for now, we’ll take the Saints to win it all.
