Earlier this week, we updated the 2023 rankings with an updated Top 100, ranking the top 100 junior prospects in Oklahoma. We had plenty of prospects that soared up the rankings. Plenty of prospects holding on firm in their ranking from the summer. Then we had plenty of new faces that made their debuts in the ranking on Monday. You can check out the complete Top 100 Right Here. In this post, we’ll take a look at some of those prospects who made the biggest jumps in our latest ranking update. We had a few prospects jump over 20 spots within the rankings so this is just Part One! Stay tuned to Part Two!
Chance Jordan
Chance
Jordan
6'0" | 270 lbs | DL
Morris | 2023
State
OK
– Defensive Lineman – Beggs
(Went From #43 To #14)
Only one other prospect in the latest ranking update made a bigger jump than Beggs defensive lineman Chance Jordan Chance Jordan 6'0" | 270 lbs | DL Morris | 2023 State OK . However, Jordan’s jump moved him into the top 15 overall and he’s emerged as one of the top overall defensive prospects and defensive linemen. It is so fun to watch Jordan’s tape from this season, but we understand it might not be fun to go up against the Beggs standout. The Golden Demons are one of the top teams in Class 2A and their defensive line is one of the best units in the state, regardless of class. Along with Jordan, you have to be concerned with 2022 defensive end Maliek Bogard Maliek Bogard 6'5" | DL Beggs | 2022 State OK when trying to contain this Beggs defensive line. However, when it comes to Jordan in particular, we haven’t seen many other defensive linemen who have been as dominant as Jordan has this season. Physically, he just overpowers opponents and moves opposing offenses backwards. Even when I saw Beggs in person, they got blown out by Lincoln Christian on the road but Jordan was still causing chaos along the line of scrimmage. Lincoln found a way to avoid Jordan and still put up points but Jordan had a strong performance. And just as a side note, Jordan is a pretty underrated punter. The big man can absolutely boot the football!
Chance Wilson
Chance
Wilson
6'3" | 185 lbs | QB
Rejoice Christian | 2023
State
OK
– Quarterback – Rejoice Christian
(Went From #69 To #35)
Another prospect that made a massive jump in the latest ranking update was Rejoice Christian quarterback Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK . We’ll be honest, we did not see this coming. And we got a chance (no pun intended) to see the Rejoice QB throughout the offseason when he played with Sooner 7. We thought that Wilson was a solid quarterback prospect and he earned his ranking in the summer. But we did not expect him to make this kind of leap and have the type of season he’s had so far. He is absolutely tearing up Class 2A this season and has become one of the top quarterbacks in the state, regardless of class. He is beating teams with his arm and his legs and has Rejoice Christian as a serious championship contender in Class 2A. Wilson is a dark horse candidate for Player Of The Year when you look at some of the numbers he has put up. The Eagles didn’t take long this season to grab headlines as they opened up the year in week zero with a win over defending Class A champion Cashion. From there, Rejoice has continued to put up monster numbers on the offensive side of the ball and Wilson has joined the group of quarterbacks who make up a special group of 2023 QB’s in Oklahoma today.
Keegan Bass
Keegan
Bass
5'9" | 175 lbs | WR
Mustang | 2023
State
OK
– Wide Receiver – Mustang
(Went From #100 To #80)
When we updated the rankings over the summer, Mustang wide receiver Keegan Bass Keegan Bass 5'9" | 175 lbs | WR Mustang | 2023 State OK was the very last prospect at #100. However, after looking at what he’s been able to do this fall, he’s jumped up 20 spots to #80 and is one of the biggest stock risers at the wide receiver position in the 2023 class. After checking out Bass on film, you could see the playmaking ability from him not only as a slot receiver but Mustang isn’t shy from getting him involved in the running game and he also can return kicks. On a team that has a few stars like fellow 2023 standout Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'4" | DB Mustang | 2023 State OK and 2022 tight end and Oregon commit Andre Dollar Andre Dollar 6'4" | TE Mustang | 2022 State OK , it’s Bass that might be the most versatile athlete that is utilized as much as possible, especially on the offensive side of the ball. I also got a chance to see Bass in person during non-district play and one big question I had about him after watching film was his size. It looks like he’s gotten bigger in the last year. Not only in the height category but he looks like he’s been putting in work in the weight room. Bass is also considered one of the better guards in the state’s 2023 basketball class. So it’ll be interesting to see if he gets opportunities in both sports or if one pulls him one way over the other.
Zane Shadid
Zane
Shadid
6'0" | 210 lbs | LB
Bishop McGuinness | 2023
State
OK
– Linebacker – Bishop McGuinness
(Went From #83 To #59)
We mentioned being surprised with the jump that Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK made after watching him with Sooner 7 this offseason. One prospect that we’re not as surprised about with the recent ranking update was another Sooner 7 product but it comes on the defensive side of the ball. Bishop McGuinness linebacker Zane Shadid Zane Shadid 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB Bishop McGuinness | 2023 State OK has been one of the more consistent linebackers in Class 5A over the last few seasons. He had a strong season last year and despite being a junior, he was primed to be a leader on an Irish defense that had a lot of confidence coming into this season. Bishop McGuinness has stumbled a couple times in a few close games against fellow top ten teams in Class 5A but they are still a dangerous team. As for Shadid as a prospect, he is a prototypical linebacker who can absolutely fly all over the field. We like what we’ve seen from Shadid this fall taking more of a vocal lead on this McGuinness defense. You can see him starting to identify things on the offensive side of the ball much quicker and that has put him in a position to make a much bigger impact. He can certainly fly around on defense and when he gets to the point of attack he is not shy about hitting an opposing ball carrier. Shadid is one of a couple linebackers who made massive jumps in the last update.
