Throughout this season, a handful of freshmen quarterbacks have gotten the starting nod for their schools. To start as a freshman at any position in high school is
impressive, to be a starting quarterback as a freshman is even more impressive. Out of those freshmen that have played this year at quarterback for their high schools, the following four have stood out above the rest.
Carson Nagle – Bald Eagle Area
Nagle has gone through some freshmen growing pains here and there throughout the season but overall has looked strong for freshmen. He’s averaging right around 180 passing yards per game, totaling 904 passing yards on the season to go along with eight touchdowns. He shows a nice touch on his passes and decent arm strength though as he gets bigger and older that will come with time. For a freshman, there’s a lot to like about his game, and is someone who should be on your radar going forward.
Brayden Fox – Brockway
Fox like Nagle has had his fair share of struggles early in his career particularly with turnovers but that’s to be expected. Personally, for freshmen or even sophomores, I won’t shy away from them because of turnovers, instead, I like to see how they react to those turnovers and how it affects them. Fox is the type of quarterback that shows the ability to get over his mistakes and get ready for the next challenge. He’s shown some nice touch at times with his consistency a bit up and down at times, again to be expected. But overall, he’s shown some good poise out on the field with quality arm talent at this point in his career, he’s amassed so far 871 passing yards and six touchdowns.
Shawn Lee Jr – Harrisburg
The son of former Penn State defensive back Shawn Lee, Shawn Lee Jr showed quickly this season that he is going to be an exciting and fun player to watch. Lee is banged up right now and hasn’t played since September 11th but in his first three games as a freshman completed nearly 64% of his passes for 429-yards and five touchdowns. He also added 91-yards and a touchdown on the ground in the process. He showed a lot of promise before his injury and it will be intriguing to see how he performs once he returns to the field. Right now, it’s pretty easy to project him as one of the top players in the 2025 class regardless of position.
Stone Saunders Stone Saunders 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Bishop McDevitt | 2025 State PA – Bishop McDevitt:
Saunders is already a quarterback our readers may be familiar with heading into this season. The Bishop McDevitt signal-caller is one of the higher touted freshmen quarterbacks in the country and has already received scholarship offers from Power Five programs. He’s a special talent and we’ve seen that early on already in his career as he’s totaled 761-yards and 13 touchdowns this season while completing 64.4% of his passes. He has also yet to throw an interception this season. Saunders has a chance to be one of the better quarterbacks Pennsylvania has produced over the last decade or so which is saying something considering the talent that the Keystone has produced over that time. But the early results are showing that Saunders may not just be the top player in the state in the class of 2025 but maybe one of the top players in the entire country.
With that, those are four freshmen quarterbacks in Pennsylvania whose early results will have us keeping a close eye on the long term. This list will surely grow throughout the season but for now, these four lead the way at quarterback.
