The stars of the future got an opportunity to get their feet wet in just before their older teammates hit the field. Here were the players that made the most of their JV opportunities before the big contest Friday afternoon.
Palatine
2024 Quarterback/Safety Connor May (6’5” and 185lbs) @Connormay05
Even though may wasn’t the starting quarterback, he filled in during the scoend half due to an injury. He played solid but you could tell he is raw. As a safety, he’s long and rangy, with a great frame to continue to add on weight. May also plays basketball, so not sure he ends up on the gridiron, but if he does, he could grown into a very solid outside linebacker.
Maine South
2024 Wide receiver Nick Wong (5’10” and 150lbs) @nickwong_1
The slot receiver did a bit of everything, from catching passing to taking handoffs in the backfield. He did drop a very catchable ball, but he has a physical presence when the balls in his hands that you like to see.
2024 Athlete Evan Agosto (5’10” and 170lbs) @EvanAgosto
Played on both sides of the ball, as a wide receiver and cornerback. Has good size for either position and did well in limited time.
2024 Quarterback Jackson Kilburg (6’2” and 180lbs) @KilburgJackson
Really thought that Kilburg commanded the offense well, he was directing his teammates to get in proper position. That tells me he has a high football IQ, which is a great trait for a quarterback. Solid arm strength as well, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Kilburg taking over the starting varsity job next season.
2024 Linebacker Ryan Mallory (6’ and 190lbs) @RyanMallory32
Solid frame and moved very well, Mallory made some very good tackles throughout the time I was there. There’s plenty of room for him to grow and add some more weight, could end up moving down to defense end.
2024 Linebacker Samuel Cooper (5’10” and 200lbs)
Probably could have labeled Cooper as an athlete, he carried the ball quite a few times and scored a touchdown. I did like him as a linebacker a little bit more, but he certainly has the ability to play either position down the road.
2024 Running back Anthony Capesius (5’8” and 175lbs)
Had one explosive run, for about 15-yards that was impressive. I like that he finished his run, lowering his shoulder and driving his legs through the defender.
2024 Defensive end Ty Warnock (6’3” and 185lbs)
A great frame that will certainly continue to add on more weight, Warnock looks the part of a future solid defensive end. Maine South does a great job in player development, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him really exploding onto the scene next year.
2024 Offensive lineman Luke Pederson (6’2” and 210lbs)
An impressive lower half, Pederson did well to move opponents off the line with his strong hands. He will need to add on weight to his upper body but the frame is certain there for him to do so.
2024 Defensive tackle Jacob Kiera (6’1” and 265lbs)
A load in the middle of the defense, Kiera also played some guard on offense. He moves very well for his size and has the potential to develop into a hole clogging one-technique tackle. Kiera has a lot of potential.
2024 Free safety Cristain Proano (5’11” and 145lbs)
Did a great job on the back end of the defense, but is a bit on the slighter side right now. Does have plenty of room to continue to add on weight, I like the upside that Proano has.
2024 Linebacker Michael Mizwicki (6’3” and 190lbs) @MichaelMizwicki
Great frame, will fill out significantly as Mizwicki continues to get older. Might end up with his hand in the ground but moved extremely well as a linebacker. Good tackler and instincts, Mizwicki should be a staple on the defensive line for the next few years for the varsity Hawks.
