Unfortunately, it didn’t go their way, and they lost a very close contest, 20-19 to Palatine. The Hawk have very good players all over the field and here are the ones that stood out on Friday night.
2022 Wide receiver Chris Petrucci Chris Petrucci 6'5" | 215 lbs | TE Maine South | 2022 State IL (6’5” and 215lbs) @ChrisPetrucci19
The Northwestern commit played on both sides but shined as a receiver. Even though he will make a move to tight end at the next level, his pass catching abilities were on display Friday night.

He runs great routes, his hands are very strong and always catches the ball away from his body. He’s got enough speed to stretch the field and was a very solid linebacker as well. The Wildcats got a very good prospect in Petrucci.
2022 Defensive end Thaddeus Gianaris Thaddeus Gianaris 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL Maine South | 2022 State IL (6’2” and 230lbs) @TeddyGianaris
Recently getting an offer from Cornell and Dartmouth, Gianaris should be getting a whole lot more attention. He’s an absolute monster off the edge, quick and mobile, always seems like he was around the ball.

Even though he didn’t take down the quarterback, he registered a few hurries. He was in on the safety that brought his team closer to the lead, stepping up when his team needed it. He’s versatile, moving all around the line, but his best was as a rush end. There’s a lot to like about his game, Gianaris has a ton of potential.
2022 Running back Mike Sajenko Mike Sajenko 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Maine South | 2022 State IL (6’ and 190lbs) @MikeSajenko
Last year when I saw Maine South, Sajenko has some fumble issues, but on Friday night you could see that ball security for him was paramount. He did a great job running the ball and finding lanes, his vision standing out. Sajenko was also a factor in the passing game, a great outlet with solid hands, who immediately turned upfield to gain as many yards as possible.

Sajenko was powerful close to the goal line as you can see above, he isn’t just an outside the tackle runner. A very solid back who has improved from this past spring, Sajenko has the ability to be a factor the next level.
2022 Quarterback Rowan Keefe Rowan Keefe 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Maine South | 2022 State IL (6’3” and 180lbs) @KeefeRowan
It was an up-and-down night for Keefe, for him right now it’s about getting as many reps as possible. He’s a first year starter so the experience that he lacks hurt, but the talent is definitely there. Keefe has a very strong arm, he can make difficult throws on the move look extremely easy. A very solid athlete as well, he’s not a burner as a runner, but efficient and can move the chains if asked. The decision making was a but suspect at times, but that goes back to the experience factor, it will get better with time. Keefe is raw, but has a large skill set that will bode well as he continues to get more reps.
2023 Linebacker Brady Marques (5’11” and 180lbs) @brady_marques
Did a very good job of playing run support, Marques is a bit small to play linebacker at the next level. He did a great job of playing his role, a very disciplined player. He straffes well when tracking the play, puts his foot in the dirt and attacks the ball carrier when he diagnoses the action. There is a lot of potential for his to play hybrid safety, one that plays in the box and covers tight ends. Marques has solid speed and did drop well in coverage and should be a name to watch for the next year and a half.
2022 Cornerback Frank Bartell (5’11” and 185lbs) @FrankBartell5
Even though he played on both sides, at receiver also, I really liked what I saw from Bartell as a defensive back. He was around the ball all night, grabbed a pick in the redzone that was very instinctual. Bartell came up and played the run well also, he is a solid tackler in run support. His frame will allow him to keep adding on some weight, potentially making a move back to safety. Bartell has loose hips and the ability to run with faster receivers, so he could very well stay at cornerback as well.
