Norman North went 0-100 real quick, or at least 0-70. The first pass of the game for the Timberwolves was a beautifully throw deep ball from senior quarterback Gavin Frakes Gavin Frakes 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Norman North | 2022 State OK to a wide open junior receiver Brayden Downey for a 70 yard score. That opening score would be harbinger of things to come for the Timberwovles, as Frakes would connect twice more with Downey. Including another bomb, that one of a 50 yard variety. It wasn’t all Timberwolves though, even though it was threatening to be. After a Chapman McKown Chapman McKown 5'8" | RB Norman North | 2023 State OK TD run, they lead 15-0 early in the game and had the Tigers in a difficult 3rd and long. But it wouldn’t be a Crosstown Clash without a little drama.
Norman’s junior quarterback Tias McClarty flirted with danger on a scramble, but avoided the oncoming rushers and a few more defenders after he broke the pocket and ended up going 79 yards to breath life into a struggling Tigers’ offense. The teams would trade touchdowns in the upcoming drives, but penalties would become the story of the middle of the game. With the score at 22-14 for the longest time, both squads squandered good scoring chances in the second quarter. It wasn’t till Norman capped a long drive in the third quarter with a field goal, that more points were added on the board. When the Timberwolves needed it most, it was Brayden Downey that delivered. He caught his third TD of the night with 1:28 left in the third quarter to make it 28-17.
Norman once again was able to move the ball behind the legs of McClarty and their running back duo of Devin Alexander and Xaiver Shackleford. But Norman North’s defense came up with a crucial 4th and short stop around midfield. On the very next play, the Timberwolves would put the game to bed. This time Frakes connected with junior receiver Cason Cabbiness, who broke tackles and was able to take 58 yards to the end zone. Which made it 34-17. From that point forward, Norman North never looked back. And just for good measure a few minutes later, Frakes would fine Cabbiness on a fade route to make it 41-17.
A late consolation score ran in by McClarty would make the score look more respectable. Which made it 41-24. But the game was decided in the opening and final frames, they would score 35 of their 41 points in those two frames. North hit big play after play through the air, which is no surprise when the signal caller is Ivy League bound Gavin Frakes Gavin Frakes 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Norman North | 2022 State OK .

TURNING POINT
It was early in the third quarter and McClarty had shown his bonafides as a dangerous runner. With a 4th and short, and trailing only by 10 the Tigers would go for it. But Norman North’s defensive line would answer the call, blowing it up from the second the ball was snapped. Norman would be forced to turn it over on downs, and one play later North would put the game out of reach. Even with all the explosive scoring, it would be a mistake to leave a game recap without giving credit to the boys in the trenches for the Timberwolves’ defensive front. Junior defensive end

Who else could it be but the man that threw not one, not two, not three, but five touchdowns. Frakes was on the money with multiple deep balls, finding receivers in the intermediate area, and even a good fade pass touchdown to cap it off. The future Ivy Leaguer was not bothered by incoming rushers. He often stepped up and delivered strikes, or was able to escape to scramble for yards of his own. As the Timberwolves continues to fine-tune their offense, be on the lookout for the gunslinger to be among the touchdown leaders in the state.

Norman North: vs Edmond Memorial, September 10th
If you like points, there’s a good chance Norman North’s offense will keep providing the entertainment next week. They host the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs. Last year, the Timberwolves won 47-6 over the Bulldogs. With Frakes and the playmakers around him, it very well could be more of the same.
