Here are some things to watch for as we enter week 5.
<strong>Perry Traditional’s [player_tooltip player_id="64019" first="Tyreese" last="Fearbry"] Vs. Brashear’s [player_tooltip player_id="27733" first="Ta’Mere" last="Robinson"]</strong>
Fearbry and Robinson are both the top prospects in the city league in the ’22 and ’23 class respectfully. Fearbry committed to Kentucky over this past weekend, while Robinson’s recruiting is heating up. Fearbry is a defensive end while Robinson plays outside linebacker and safety but will be a linebacker at the next level. Robinson does rush quite often though, so we’ll see who creates the most pressure on the QB. There are no stats on either player for this season, but I’m interested to see who has the better game.
<strong>William Penn Charter QB [player_tooltip player_id="99377" first="Colin" last="Schumm"] vs. Roman Catholic D-Line</strong>
William Penn’s game against Northeast was canceled last week and was really looking forward to seeing what happened, but Schumm still faces a tough d-line in Roman Catholic this week. Roman Catholic has our 18th overall ranked d-end in [player_tooltip player_id="66053" first="Jameial" last="Lyons"] and 27th overall ranked d-end in [player_tooltip player_id="145447" first="Jordan" last="Montgomery"] from the ’23 class. Lyons is really coming into his own this year and could see him move up a little in the rankings They also have d-tackle [player_tooltip player_id="142404" first="Sameir" last="Speights"], our 12th overall ranked player in the ’24 class. With Montgomery and Lyons on the edge and Speights in the middle, look for the pocket to close quickly on Schumm. He gets the ball out quickly and has the ability to escape the pocket. So this should be interesting to watch.
<strong>Gateway’s QB [player_tooltip player_id="64000" first="Brad" last="Birch"] Vs. Pine-Richland Defense</strong>
Birch is our 2nd ranked quarterback in the 2024 class and had a phenomenal freshman season at Jeannette, but since he transferred to Gateway, this game will be his toughest competition to date. Pine-Richland is the defending 5A State Champs. Even though PR has had an interesting and tough offseason, they still are a good football team. Birch is nowhere near the season he had a year ago and I think the competition is getting to him. In 4 games, he’s already thrown 6 interceptions. He threw 6 interceptions all last season. Expect senior linebacker and Duke commit [player_tooltip player_id="27578" first="Jeremiah" last="Hasley"] to be a factor and confuse the young QB.
