The Five: Mr. Football Candidates – D2-Class AA
As we continue our look at the top Mr. Football contenders from each classification, here we look at the best guys positioned to earn top individual honors by the end of the Fall season from D2-Class AA.
D2-Class AA
1. (LB/RB) Langston Patterson Langston Patterson 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB Christ Presbyterian | 2022 State TN (6’2 215) – CPA
– The two sport state champion linebacker is the top two-way talent in the D2-Class AA ranks as he produces at a consistent high level. The current Vanderbilt commit will be playing both ways yet again this year, so look for Patterson to put up big numbers at running back and linebacker and help lead his team towards another state title. Patterson will however have more competition this year, so the path for Mr. Football won’t be easy.
2. (QB) Luther Richesson Luther Richesson 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Lipscomb Academy | 2022 State TN (6’3 190) – Lipscomb Academy
– Richesson has some of the strongest buzz of any prospects from the D2-Class AA ranks headed into the Fall season as he turned himself into a Power Five, D1 prospect this offseason and appears poised for a big senior year. The Mustangs star quarterback helped lead his team to the Class AA state title last year and has the pieces around him on offense to return to Cookeville and help put up big numbers. Like Patterson above, barring injury, Richesson will be right in the mix for Mr. Football honors by season’s end.
3. (QB) Cade Law Cade Law 6'1" | 210 lbs | QB CPA | 2022 State TN (6’1 210) – CPA
– The two sport star headed to Vanderbilt to play baseball, Law is the quarterback of the defending D2-Class AA state champs and he is bigger, stronger, faster and more mature than last year, so competition better watch out! Law is a gunslinger with a powerful right arm that can put the ball wherever he wants to. He also has a collection of talent surrounding him on offense that can help him put up big numbers. Law plays with all out desire, so he has all the attributes to earn Mr. Football by the end of the year.
4. (RB) Alex Broome Alex Broome 5'8" | 190 lbs | RB Lipscomb Academy | 2022 State TN (5’9 190) – Lipscomb Academy
– If Broome was in almost any other classification, he would be the top candidate to win Mr. Football but this year’s D2-Class AA crop is loaded but that doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the guys to contend and win top honors. Broome is a stocky and athletic back that can do a little bit of everything from the backfield. He is an explosive runner that can also put up strong numbers in the passing game. Currently committed to Boston College, Broome has all the talent in the world to outperform his counterparts and win D2-Class AA Mr. Football.
5. (RB) Craig Cunningham II Craig Cunningham II 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Lausanne | 2022 State TN – Lausanne
– Everybody may be looking at the Lynx quarterback for this position but it’s the running back, Cunningham that is poised for a breakout season that could put him in contention for Mr. Football. The 5’9 athletic back has strung together a strong offseason of training and camps that has put him on the radar as a legit college recruit. Much like Broome above, Cunningham is a do everything kind of back that provides speed, pass catching and the ability to churn out tough yards. Watch out for the West Tennessee back to bust loose as one of the top prospects in the D2-Class AA arena.
