Jaxson Grimes Jaxson Grimes 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Metro Christian | 2024 State OK – 2024 Wide Receiver/Linebacker/Punter
I’ll be honest with you guys, I probably messed up in not naming Jaxson Grimes Jaxson Grimes 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Metro Christian | 2024 State OK the ’Player of the Game.’ The guy was all over the place on Friday night – in a good way. Honestly, after seeing him with my own two eyes, I’m not even sure what position he projects to in college. Grimes can seriously do it all. Grimes is a big target at wideout at 6’1″ and even though he didn’t get to show off his hands on the offensive end, he most definitely did on the defensive side. Playing from the safety position, Grimes picked off two Checotah passes. He sees the play well and is probably best utilized at safety rather than linebacker, though he can definitely lower the boom on a ball carrier. He showed that ability – along with the ability to absolutely BOOM punts – when a returner made it past everyone and it was up to No. 11 as the last line of defense.
Kirk Francis Kirk Francis 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK – 2023 Quarterback
As Metro Christian head coach Jared McCoy said after the game, Kirk probably won’t “hang his hat” on this particular game when the season is all said and done. It was Zero Week and it mostly showed in offensive possessions as MCA tried to diagnose exactly what it was that Checotah was doing defensively. Still, Francis showed tremendous ability as the signal caller for the two-time defending state champions. He can absolutely sling it, launching bombs downfield with ease. The 6’2″ junior is the unrivaled leader of the squad and proves it on every play in both his leadership and ability. He showed a preternatural ability to feel pressure coming and has plenty of speed to outrun a defensive lineman or linebacker who might slip into the backfield. He finished the night with 146 yards passing and two TD’s. His lone interception came due to a bobbled pass and not quarterback error. Francis is a legitimate prospect who can make all of the throws required of a Division-I QB1.
Corley Wagner – 2024 Running Back/Linebacker
Though just a sophomore, Wagner was a standout from the outset of Friday night’s game. Sharing carries in a loaded backfield with running back prospect Tagg Campbell Tagg Campbell 5'10" | DB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK , Wagner was still able to make his mark on the game with 65 yards and a TD on 10 carries. He is a strong player with great speed, though it remains to be seen whether he would stick on the offensive or defensive side of the ball at the college level. Corley has great vision as a linebacker and reads the play very well. He racked up a sack near the end of the day, hitting the quarterback with speed and ferocity after sneaking through the big guys on the line. Wagner is most definitely one to keep an eye on as the year goes on and he becomes more of an important cog in the high-powered MCA offense. He is most definitely one to watch!
