Indy Tight End Ty Lockwood Commits to Ohio St.
One of the top overall prospects from the 2023 in-state class has taken his name out of the game by committing to one of the best college football programs in the country.
Independence (TN) tight end Ty Lockwood Ty Lockwood 6'5" | 225 lbs | TE Independence | 2023 State TN has committed to Ohio St. and he is excited about his future up in the Big 10 Conference.
“This is a big decision for me and it’s something I am extremely excited about. I can’t tell you how honored I feel with this opportunity to play at Ohio St., so you can bet I won’t take anything for granted.”
Lockwood choose the Buckeyes over finalists Florida St., Penn St. and South Carolina along with offers from many, many other Power Five, D1 programs.
The Eagles star tight end decided on Ohio St. as the best school for him because Lockwood see’s the Buckeyes as the best fit for him both on and off the field.
“Ohio St. is the best fit academically, culturally and football wise for me in every way possible,” he said. “They focus on all spots and aspects of life and are successful in everything they do. They will help develop me and prepare me for whatever is next in life, whether that’s football or life in general.”
Lockwood see’s the Buckeyes as the best place to learn as a growing young man but also a place where he can develop his game and become a better football player as well.
The Buckeyes staff has been all over Lockwood from the jump as they saw him as the perfect fit for their tight end room and a prospect with talents that can be developed properly in Columbus.
“The staff see’s me fitting into the tight room however they need me to. I am a blank slate when I arrive on campus that I will take in everything they teach and work at developing my game the best ways possible”
“They see me as a big competitor that can become a complete tight end. They love my ability to get open in space and create a mismatch with the defense. They think my best football is ahead of me and I agree but must keep working to become that guy they are looking for,” said Lockwood.
While the Eagles tight end may have his college decision out of the way, Lockwood will keep working on his craft, trying to make sure he is ready to compete the moment he steps on the Ohio St. campus.
“The Buckeyes coaching staff has basically told me that they want me to keep doing what I do. Whatever type of work and training I am doing, they want me to maintain that and keep going. They like where my game is and where it’s headed, so just keep getting bigger, stronger and faster are my main objectives.”
Lockwood will be focused on his craft but he is also equally focused on his Eagles team and their expectations headed into the upcoming 2021 season.
The 6’5 pass catcher had to hold back his excitement when talking about his Eagles team because he thinks they have something special, especially after their strong work during this past offseason and summer.
“The team has been making major strides this offseason and it really started showing up during our scrimmages over the past few weeks. I think we will be a very tough team to beat. We will be a team that you will want to circle on your calendar and come see compete. I think we have a phenomenal shot at being a really good team this year and doing some special things,” said Lockwood.
Everything is working out well for Lockwood as football is about to get cranked back up and his college destination has been set, so going forward, the Williamson County tight end can just focus on his team and develop his game in the right ways.
The one thing you won’t have to worry about if you’re an Ohio State fan is the idea of Lockwood backing off his commitment and looking into others because according to the Mid-Tennessee tight end, he has no plans of moving away from the Buckeyes.
“I am 1000% with Ohio St., “ Lockwood said. “I have committed to commit, so I am fully on board and do not see myself de-committing at any point and time.”
Lockwood is rated as the #1 tight end by Prep RedZone Tennessee and the #4 overall prospect for the in-state 2023 recruiting class.
